Reports to the Director of Custodial Service of Facility Services and is responsible for smooth operation of all Material Handling and Trucking Services
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain excellent work relationships with clients, meeting customer needs and providing quality service by communicating with customers to determine needs and expectations, promoting good customer service with employees and measuring performance and establishing a high level of confidence and reputation with customers.
Create and administer Health and Safety training programs that align with Health and Safety policies and practices.
Provide expertise in the area of all Transportation, logistics and the movement of dangerous goods.
Provide leadership for continuous improvement to the trucking operations with a focus on improved customer relations and customer satisfaction.
Develop, implement, and administer formalized training and quality assurance programs to improve the standards of our current service levels.
Provide guidance to unit including, evaluation, support and development of staff and team building initiatives.
Maintain all records for equipment maintenance, supply inventory and control and work closely with Director on Best Practice initiative and industry trends.
Work closely with teams to promote team unity and staff morale within the unit.
Ensure adherence to University and Departmental policies on environment and capital projects.
Supervises the staffing within the unit by evaluating, coaching and counselling,
Completes the Transportation Services operation requirements by determining the work priorities, scheduling and assigning employees, and follows up on work requests.
Provides cost and labour estimates to customers on all customer initiated job estimate requests.
Keep detailed records of all maintenance vehicles currently in our fleet.
Team building through leading by example, promotes communication and reinforces positive behaviours.
Responsible for developing and ensuring a strong employee and team commitment to performance and client service.
Establishes methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other teams.
Adhere to budget by optimizing expenditures on labour and material.
Investigate new and innovative ideas to improve the overall service levels.
Maintain and/or improve on department's sustainable focus in the area of transportation.
Provide other services as assigned by the Director.
Knowledge and Skills
Working Knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Labour codes, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Transportation
Ability to budget, prepare financial analyses and do job costing for various charge in work (furniture moves, etc.)
Ability to work within a unionized work environment and strong ability with conflict resolution
Analytical and problem solving
Leadership, supervisory and team building skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong ability to multitask
Significant knowledge and experience with organizational, supervisory and management principles
Sound leadership, customer service and communication skills
Computer knowledge with abilities in word processing, email, Excel, and management information systems
