The restaurant's dining room seats 40 at table and an additional 11 around our social bar space. A spacious deck offers the opportunity to extend serve to up to an additional 75 guests throughout the summer. Finally, our fully-licensed lawn space provides a memorable setting for pre- or post-dinner drinks, as well as offering the potential for larger-scale special events. The town sees significant seasonal traffic, and the restaurant can average 125 covers a night in the height of the season. Server
at The Annex. This role is central to guests' experience and the overall atmosphere at The Annex. The right candidate will love interacting with people and thrive in a busy environment. In addition, they will take seriously their role in food and beverage knowledge and come to work with daily curiosity and an eagerness to learn. We are looking for folks who are team players and get excited about how their knowledge can contribute to a positive guest experience.
The restaurant is hiring for multiple Server roles, from full-season (May - October) to summer hires (July - August).
Inverness, Nova Scotia is a rural town of about 1,300 people on the west coast of Cape Breton Island. A vibrant summertime destination for many, the area hosts gorgeous sandy beaches with the warmest Atlantic waters north of the Carolinas, innumerable hiking trails, a strong home-grown music culture, and is home to the globally-ranked golf courses of Cabot Cape Breton. In winter, the area quiets down significantly, making time for community building, sitting by the fire, card playing, and winter-sports (including over 1000km of snowmobiling trails). The area is ideal for individuals and families who enjoy outdoor activities and nature.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, timely, warm and welcoming service to guests
- Retain detailed knowledge about the restaurant's food and drink menus
- Make appropriate recommendations to guests based on conversational approach to serving
- Communicate clearly and accurately to the bar and kitchen throughout service, particularly in POS order entries
- Identify and act upon upselling opportunities that will enhance a guest's dining experience with The Annex
- Contribute to the service of all guests in the restaurant, developing a holistic eye for the needs of all guests, regardless of whether acting as lead server for the table
- Process cash and credit card transactions accurately following appropriate procedures
- Maintain cleanliness, beauty, and organization of all guest-facing spaces
- Contribute to inventory management and regular supplies ordering
- Maintain an organized, prepared, and clean work area
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for guests and team in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety and WHMIS guidelines
- Carry out all tasks with attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety
- Adhere to all local and national liquor laws
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to work well a team-environment towards common goals is an absolute must
- Gregarious personality with strong customer service and interpersonal skills
