Server, Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar
As a Server at Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar, located within our luxury hotel, Fairmont Palliser, you will embody the highest standards of hospitality. With polished professionalism, genuine warmth, and an expert understanding of our meticulously curated menu and beverage offerings, you will deliver intuitive, elevated service that transforms every dining experience into a lasting memory. Reporting to the Restaurant General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Warmly welcome guests with genuine hospitality and a polished demeanor, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience that consistently exceeds expectations.
Adhere to all restaurant and hotel policies, including LQA standards and Sequence of Service protocols, ensuring every touchpoint meets luxury service benchmarks.
Demonstrate proficiency in tableside service techniques, such as saucing, carving, and finishing, with grace and precision.
Ensure compliance with liquor laws, practicing responsible alcohol service in accordance with regulations and hotel policy.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of all food and beverage offerings, including pairings, seasonal promotions, and local sourcing, to engage and educate guests with confidence.
Accurately record, communicate, and serve all guest orders in a professional and timely manner, collaborating closely with colleagues and culinary teams.
Support the bar team as needed by handling glassware efficiently and discreetly, reinforcing seamless service throughout the venue.
Create meaningful, heartfelt guest moments through proactive quality checks and prompt resolution of feedback, ensuring no guest leaves unsatisfied.
Participate in ongoing training and assessments to maintain expert-level knowledge of all menu offerings, including food, wine, cocktails, spirits, and beer, ensuring confident and accurate guest engagement at all times.
Uphold a safe, clean, and compliant work environment, strictly following all Health & Safety guidelines and protocols.
Exhibit scheduling flexibility and availability to meet business demands, including weekends and holidays, as determined by seniority.
Execute any additional duties as assigned by the Restaurant General Manager or their designate, with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years' experience in a refined, upscale restaurant or lounge environment is required; experience in a luxury hotel setting is highly regarded.
Professional presence, polished appearance, and a warm, engaging personality are essential. Extensive knowledge of cocktails, wine, and spirits is expected; WSET or comparable certifications are considered a strong asset.
Previous bartending experience is considered a valuable asset, particularly in elevated cocktail or fine dining settings.
Proven track record of exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to anticipate guest needs and personalize service accordingly.
Must possess excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including a strong command of professional vocabulary and guest-facing communication.
Must demonstrate a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for hospitality, with a natural ability to create a welcoming and memorable guest experience
Composed and effective under pressure, with the ability to multi-task gracefully in a high-paced luxury environment.
Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture.
