Conditions of Employment:


Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must possess and maintain a full and valid class 4 Manitoba Drivers Licence Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, with no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Manitoba Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks Must be willing and able to travel including overnight stays for extended periods of time. Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening Must be eligible for appointment as a Manitoba Conservation Officer as specified in the Conservation Officers Act and Regulations Must be able to successfully complete an approved Psychological Assessment Must be able to successfully complete the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (PARE - exit level 4:45 min), Police Fitness Assessment (PFA - Field Version) or Winnipeg Police Service Physical Abilities Test (WPS-PAT - exit level 4:15 min). Must pass and maintain department approved firearm, defensive tactics and emergency vehicle training and qualification Must be physically able to perform the duties of this position including: conducting outdoor investigations and patrols in adverse weather conditions, walking over rough terrain, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, and carrying up to 20 Kg

Qualifications:


Essential




Graduation from an approved Renewable Resource Management Program or a University/College Environmental Management Studies Program, with resource law enforcement content, coupled with experience working in a multi-disciplined environment as a full working level Conservation Officer. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience satisfactory to the department, may be considered. Experience in law enforcement and legislative compliance applicable to natural resources, including knowledge of applicable legislation/guidelines. Experience supervising staff. Strong written communication skills. Ability to lead and coach others. Experience in conflict resolution. Financial management experience. Effective analytical, problem solving and decision making skills. Ability to display initiative and work independently with minimal supervision. General office computer skills using Microsoft Office, or other comparable software applications. Ability to facilitate team effectiveness by participating actively and in a way that respects others and maintains positive working relationships. Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize/organize changing workloads and demands. Strong verbal communication skills

Duties:


Reporting directly to the Staff Sergeant, the Sergeant will be responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of all resource management and regulatory programs related to fisheries, forestry, wildlife and lands within the district.



The Sergeant conducts enforcement patrols to ensure compliance with legislation and performs investigations of alleged offences. The Sergeant is also responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on district operational programs, supervising staff and administering the budget for the district. The incumbent will also ensure compliance with the Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and Risk Management programs in the Districts.
