Sergeant Manager/CPO\'s

Clearwater County, Rocky Mountain House

Due to an upcoming leave, Clearwater County is accepting applications for our Sergeant Manager, Community Peace Officers. This position reports to the Director, Planning & Emergency Services, and provides key leadership, enforcement, community engagement, and financial and administrative services in support of our County.

Leadership:

  • Lead, guide, coach and mentor CPOs.
  • Support and administer health & safety as it impacts on training, PPE and work hazards.
  • Develop training plans, evaluate performance, sets goals in accordance with departmental and County requirements.
  • Collaborates with other County departments to protect municipal road infrastructure and assist in emergency response as needed.
  • Liaison and assist RCMP and local enforcement agencies.
Key Responsibilities Include:

Enforcement:
  • Communicates and administers PSES policies and directives, as well as completing reports and documentation as required.
  • Reviews and updates municipal bylaws, CPO Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Lead contact to coordinate long weekend task force operations and JFO\'s.
  • Patrols municipal roadways to ensure compliance with Provincial legislation and municipal bylaws.
  • Completes court briefs and legal documents, attends court as required.
Community Engagement:
  • Coordinates joint programs with partner agencies.
  • Coordinates public engagements and participates in community and educational activities.
Financial & Administrative:
  • Prepares and presents reports to Council and Director.
  • Develops and recommends annual budget and monitors expenses.
  • Coordinates work schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Reviews all files and documentation.
  • Ensure hazards assessments are completed and reviewed.
Requirements:

Qualifications Required:
  • 8 to 10 years\' experience in law enforcement.
  • Previous management experience - leading, supervising, evaluating and mentoring staff.
  • Investigation experience.
  • Interpreting and administering legislation and bylaws.
  • Working with culturally diverse individuals and groups.
  • Class 5 Drivers\' license - Abstract required.
  • Experience in enforcement of Alberta Provincial Acts and Regulations.
  • Radar/laser/lidar.
  • EVOC driving course.
  • Criminal Record check including vulnerable sector checks.
  • Able to meet PARE requirements as per PSES Policy.
  • Ability to obtain PSES appointment.
  • ICS 200.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of computers programs including word, processing, spreadsheets, databases programs.
Assets:
  • Experience working with municipal and provincial government.
  • ICS 300.
  • Enhanced Security Clearance.
  • Current 1st Aid/CPR/Oxygen certification.
Due to the temporary nature of this appointment, participation in the County\'s benefits programs is limited. This managerial position is required to provide services, Mondays to Fridays, based on 36.25 hours/week.

Target date for placement: End of February, early March for 12 months with possibility of extension.
