1. To plan, promote & implement a home visiting program, activities & special events for seniors and older adults ages 55+ based on recognition of their individual needs.
2. To advocate on behalf of seniors and to provide support & resources for self-determination and representation.
3. To provide support to seniors to maintain independent living. To assist the Community Development Manager in assessing the changing needs of seniors from the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and operate under the supervision of the Program Manager, Community Development, a home visiting program, activities and special events for seniors.
2. To develop and implement educational and recreational programs and activities for seniors that will develop individual well-being by increasing self-concept, self-worth and self-determination; increase participation in decision-making process and build a sense of community among the seniors of the Waterfront Community. Responsible for designing and implementing activities based on individual and group needs and interests.
3. To assist in community development and outreach and to act as a resource to community and senior groups as they seek to identify their needs and to develop resources to meet these needs on an ongoing basis.
4. To assist seniors in accessing multiple services, supports and resources and to maintain active linkages with other resources and organizations.
5. To facilitate community involvement and encourage volunteers and seniors to assist in the programs and activities.
6. To develop, support and evaluate mentorship opportunities and other skills sharing and building activities for seniors.
7. Assists in the design and preparation of project proposals as required by the funders.
8. To provide regular program reports and evaluations as required by the funders and documentations for any serious encounters. Promote the centre's activities at large.
9. Performs other program related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Post-secondary degree; or diploma in Gerontology or Social Work or related Human Service discipline or combination or equivalent related education and professional experience.
Experience in working with seniors and demonstrated commitment to a community-based approach to service delivery.
Knowledge of multi-cultural, seniors and women's issues and demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of related community services for seniors.
Creative ability and understanding of health-related issues around ageing including dementia and memory loss.
Life Skills Coaching Certification an asset.
Ability to work well with volunteers and senior volunteers and encouraging senior's input.
Vulnerable Sector Screening - Police Reference Check.
CPR and First Aid required.
