Seniors Activity Worker

Job Description

Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is looking for a Seniors Activity Worker to work in the long-standing and successful Adult Day Program and other initiatives for seniors. The ideal candidate will have the skills to work as part of team to lead safe , engaging, and client-centered activities and programs.

Specific areas of responsibilities include:



1. Lead, adapt and modify activities designed to meet the needs of participants ensuring activities follow the purpose, goals and philosophy of both Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House and the Adult Day Program.

2. Plan and facilitate senior activities and programs that promote healthy eating, engaging activities , and social connection to improve well-being, while adapting to individual needs and ensuring safety and community connection.

3. Observe clients and their environments and reports unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical and/or cognitive changes to supervisor. Promote and encourage participation in activities and provides feedback regarding the performance and progress of clients.

4. Assist participants with activities of daily life as required, such as transfers, grooming, toileting, feeding and others.

5. Arrange and sets-up activity rooms and equipment as required. Maintain an inventory of equipment, tools and other materials related to activities and make purchases with prior approval from supervisor.

6. Participates in client's care planning, setting goals and objectives and contributes to evaluation.

7. Creates program monthly calendars and newsletters. Complete and maintain related records and documentation such as statistics, attendance record, progress reports, activity participation reports, observation and evaluation reports and client activity profiles.

8. Able to work as part of the team to provide a high quality service to the clients and to Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House.

This is a Monday to Friday work schedule. Must be able to work as part of a mainstream organization in a diverse cultural staff team.

Qualifications:



Completion of a diploma program in social services, gerontology, therapeutic recreation, counseling or other social science or health-related discipline is preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and oral communication.

Able to work collaboratively with culturally diverse seniors, volunteers and co-workers.

Able to develop and implement responsive program activities and plans.

Working knowledge of seniors' issues and promoting healthy aging in a diverse environment.

1-2 years' experience working in a culturally diverse setting- Second language is an asset.
