If you are a leader looking to apply your knowledge and integrity to responsible environmental management and the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process, then please read on.We are looking for someone to work alongside a team of specialists and environmental scientists, to deliver solutions to clients using two-eyed seeing in collaboration with First Nations/IGOs. You would be contributing to EIAs, Indigenous-led EIAs and focused research studies focused on biodiversity issues within BC, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Ontario, and Yukon regions.Zoeticaxe2x84xa2 works with First Nation, Inuit, and Mxc3xa9tis clients; clients in municipal, provincial/territorial, and federal governments and government agencies (e.g., BC Parks, Parks Canada); and private developers. They provide EIAs and associated studies, including full baseline programs/study designs, field programs, analysis and reporting, and mitigation and monitoring plans for a diversity of projects. They also provide third-party technical reviews of EIAs and help to guide clients through the EA process to ensure that they have their concerns considered and are protected from technical errors caused by developers or their consultants.Zoetica has a history of choosing clients and projects wisely to ensure their work environment allows them all to conduct honest and trustworthy work that aligns with their values.Senior Wildlife Consultant ResponsibilitiesThis role calls for a wide breadth of knowledge across the fields of biodiversity, EIA practice, regulatory requirements and timelines, interweaving of Indigenous/Traditional Knowledge, and industrial processes (including mining, linear corridor, planning, and energy projects).

  • Design of studies to meet the needs of clients and that are scientifically valid and statistically rigorous.
  • Undertaking field work, as needed, primarily focused on birds and bats, including ARU deployment and analysis.
  • Analysis of biological data to produce easily understood summaries.
  • Report writing with appropriate use of scientific language.
  • Liaise effectively with diverse clients, stakeholders, and right-holders, including the public and members of private, Indigenous, and governmental organizations.
  • Work with local Indigenous partners to develop Indigenous-led EIAs that focus on: 1) evaluating impacts to environmental values, including those that relate to rights, culture and values, and 2) implementing mitigation that protects those values.
  • Develop budgets, timelines, proposals and work plans to achieve time- and budget- constrained deliverables as part of ongoing projects and proposals.
  • Have knowledge of and Quality Assurance/Quality Control Processes (ISO 9001: 2015).
  • Provide oversight and direction for content and writing of reports that support or critique EIAs and related post-EIA compliance reporting (e.g., annual reports);
  • Provide writing or oversight of Construction and Operational Environmental Mitigation, Management and Monitoring Plans (CEMPs, OEMPs).
  • Provide construction environmental monitoring services, as needed.
The successful candidate has:
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental consulting and/or relevant work with a focus on wildlife
  • R.P. Bio or P. Bio designation, or the ability to obtain either in the future.
  • Skilled in vertebrate identification with a good working knowledge of the ecology and habitat needs of key species and groups in Canada, including SAR, and species commonly selected as project valued components for assessment.
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations that apply to wildlife and wildlife habitat within Canada.
  • Working understanding of wildlife-related rights as they relate to First Nations and UNDRIP
  • Experience designing, conducting, and reporting on biodiversity-related studies.
  • Experience producing and working on Federal EIAs and on EIAs within any of the following jurisdictions: BC, Ontario, Nunavut, Yukon, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and elsewhere.
  • Experience working on projects for mining and green energy clients.
  • Familiarity with processes and infrastructure requirements of industries requiring EIAs, including mining, nuclear waste, linear corridors, and energy projects.
  • Experience working with and integrating perspectives of diverse stakeholder and rights-holders, and subject-matter experts.
  • Experience managing teams and work to produce deliverables that are on time and on budget.
  • Proven data management and organization skills.
  • High-level knowledge and interest in various environmental disciplines of relevance to biodiversity (e.g., wildlife biology, ecology, habitat suitability modeling, climate change, ecosystems and ecosystem services, Traditional Knowledge).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment; and
  • Ability to travel occasionally (as needed).
Compensation and benefits:
  • Base salary ranging from $90,000 - $120,000 depending on experience plus bonus

  • Zoetica has five additional Statutory Holidays that they celebrate, termed Zoetica Stats, because there are not enough long weekends in the year. This position will receive 25 paid vacation days, with 20 that are flexible and 5 accounted for by additional paid Zoetica Stat holidays, supplied by Zoetica.
