Senior Vice President, Global Tax & Treasury

Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Vice President Global Tax & Treasury to join the senior leadership team of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, based in our Toronto, Canada. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the organization\xe2\x80\x99s tax and treasury affairs working in a diverse and dynamic environment. The SVP Global Tax and Treasury will lead the organization\xe2\x80\x99s international corporate tax function (planning, compliance, and reporting), assist on new deals and advise properties globally on international tax matters. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in Canadian corporate tax, the Canadian foreign affiliate system, US CFC rules, OECD transfer pricing rules and application of treaties. The SVP will provide multi-jurisdictional tax advice leading the planning and implementation strategies and systems to optimize the organization\xe2\x80\x99s global tax risk and position, ensuring compliance worldwide.

More specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead internal team of 9 and external advisors to oversee global tax planning and tax advice, including development and implementation of mitigation strategies to address changes in our operating model, reorganizations, and optimization transactions.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the organization\xe2\x80\x99s tax team of seven team members and the treasury team of two team members.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with senior leaders across the organization as a valued and strategic business resource.
  • Monitor legislative tax developments globally and assess their impact on Four Seasons operations worldwide.
  • Provide tax advice related to both existing hotel/residential properties and new development opportunities.
  • Manage tax controversy globally.
  • Oversee all domestic and international tax compliance matters.
  • Oversee financial statement reporting and budgeting processes for tax line items.
  • Oversee and monitor cash repatriation policies and processes including review of surplus and other account balances.
  • Lead role in capital structure, debt management, refinancing, and repricing options to ensure the most efficient use of the company\xe2\x80\x99s debt capacity.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management regarding cash positions, capital commitments and exposures to risk.
  • Lead the continuous improvement efforts related to optimizing cashflow and managing foreign exchange and interest rate risk.
  • Responsible for management of company\xe2\x80\x99s Term Loan and associated compliance with Credit Agreement.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership team to execute on enterprise performance transformation initiative, with a focus on data model enhancements, system configuration and reporting requirements.
  • Continuously improve the effectiveness and/or efficiency of current processes including the evolving use of technology and data.
Requirements
  • CPA/CA designation with completed In-Depth Tax program or Masters of Taxation
  • Minimum 15 years corporate tax experience in a firm and industry dealing with organizations operating across the globe, including extensive experience with transfer pricing, Canadian and US foreign affiliate/CFC regimes, permanent establishment rules and application of treaties. Experience with US, Netherlands, Swiss, Singapore, UK a UAE tax regimes would be an asset.
  • Financial reporting and compliance experience, with strong knowledge of tax accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to think broadly about tax information, think through issues, assess a variety of factors and develop innovative solutions to optimize tax positions.
  • A strategic and continuous learning mindset with a desire to stay on top of tax technical changes in Canada and abroad.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities and ensure that corporate tax initiatives are implemented systematically and within set timelines and budget across the organization.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of challenges and opportunities and see them through to resolution.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with all levels of employees across functional areas and maintain positive relationships with senior leaders throughout the organization.
  • A manager that can motivate and lead a group to excellence, attracting and retaining a high-performing team.
  • Ability to lead consultations with and manage outside tax advisors across the globe.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with ability to adapt communication style based on the audience and synthesize complex technical concepts into plain language.
All candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

This role will be a Hybrid working model, which will require 3 days per week in the Four Seasons Corporate Office located at 1165 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario #LI-Hybrid
