About the Role

We are seeking a

UX Designer

to support the development of the

Enterprise Data Product Practice, the Data Product Practice Portal, and multiple 360 data products

within the Ontario Public Service (OPS).

This role is focused on

creating user-centered, accessible, and visually appealing designs

that make complex data and information intuitive and actionable. The successful candidate will champion user experience, ensure accessibility compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful digital products.

Key Responsibilities

User Experience & Product Design

Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces for data products, portals, and analytics tools. Design overall product functionality to ensure great user experience; iterate designs based on user testing. Conduct and lead user research (interviews, surveys, usability studies) and translate insights into sitemaps, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and design recommendations. Facilitate workshops (e.g., journey mapping, co-design sessions, usability testing) to inform design decisions. Ensure all designs comply with

AODA/WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards

and align with OPS/enterprise design systems. Simplify complex information for diverse user groups and design for adoption and onboarding.
Communications & Collaboration

Collaborate with product managers, developers, and data teams in agile environments to integrate UX throughout the product lifecycle. Clearly communicate design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences. Prepare reports, assessments, and design documentation. Champion and coach OPS partners in user-centered design methods to increase organizational UX maturity. Manage deadlines, competing priorities, and maintain strong client relationships.
Agile Product Development

Work in agile, sprint-based development environments. Understand iterative product development cycles (

Discovery ? Agile ? Beta ? Live

). Align design deliverables with broader product development activities and constraints.
Tools & Technical

Use design and prototyping tools (e.g.,

Figma, Miro, Adobe XD

). Apply enterprise design systems and accessibility requirements. Understand web development constraints and apply appropriate design solutions. Gather and analyze user feedback to improve existing interfaces. Identify design problems and propose elegant, practical solutions.
Must-Have Qualifications

Experience designing effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces for

data products, portals, and analytics tools

. Strong experience with

user research

(interviews, surveys, usability studies) and translating insights into actionable design outputs. Experience facilitating

workshops

(journey mapping, co-design, usability testing). Proven collaboration with product managers, developers, and data teams in agile environments. Ability to communicate design decisions to

technical and non-technical audiences

. Understanding of

iterative product development cycles

(Discovery ? Agile ? Beta ? Live). Proficiency in design/prototyping tools (

Figma, Miro, Adobe XD

). Strong knowledge of

accessibility requirements (AODA, WCAG 2.1)

and enterprise design systems.
Nice-to-Have Skills

Familiarity with

Ontario Digital Service Design Standards

or equivalent government design frameworks. Experience with

SharePoint design/customization

. Knowledge of

service design principles

and end-to-end experience design. Understanding of

data visualization principles

and accessibility in dashboard/reporting design. Experience contributing to or extending enterprise design systems.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From $60.00 per hour
