Senior User Experience Engineer

Location: Toronto, Canada

Position Overview

The Automotive and Conceptual Design group is seeking a creative and adaptable Experience Engineer for immediate hire.

This position is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team developing sketching, modelling, animation and visualization tools for product and automotive design.

As an Experience Engineer you have a great understanding of visual styling, interaction design principles, and coding as your primary tool.

You are the bridge between the XD and Dev team, enabling excellent interactions and experiences to be created, implemented, and maintained throughout our entire development cycle. Your previous experience may come from either side, but you must possess a keen affinity for both disciplines.

Responsibilities

You will work closely with various designers and developers to explore, build, and maintain best-in-class experiences, enabling our users to design the products and vehicles of tomorrow.

• Push creativity and challenge conventional thinking to solve a large assortment of design problems.
• Ensure effective collaboration by working closely with designers as the voice of engineering, and vice versa.
• Progressively help other designers to become more proficient with basic coding.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of high-fidelity prototypes enabling quick testing and iteration cycles.
• Work closely with developers to ensure that the design intent is properly implemented and maintained throughout our entire development cycle.
• Apply core engineering principles to ensure quality, usability, and maintainability of front-end code.
• Participate in the agile development process, including daily scrums, design share-outs, sprint planning and code reviews.
• Participating in the continuous improvement of experience tools, processes, and design standards to increase effectiveness and encourage innovation across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in relevant role
• Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, other relevant fields, or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience.
• Experience with QML, Qt or popular front-end libraries such as Angular2, React, etc.
• Ability to visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity including high-level prototypes, conceptual presentations, and production-quality code.
• Good understanding of object-oriented/functional programming

• Familiarity with the technical landscape, and a hunger to learn new things.
• Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas into clear & feasible concepts.
• Ability to work in a user-centered development environment, where designs are created, iterated, and developed within a highly collaborative & cross-functional team.
• Ability to set and communicate clear expectations and deliver on them in a dynamic environment across multiple time zones and a diverse workforce.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exceptional portfolio, demonstrating a keen sense of visuals and problem-solving skills.
• Up-to-date expertise in user-centered design best practices.
• Strong knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including HTML5, CSS3, and upcoming HTML APIs.
• Proficiency in design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Adobe XD, Framer or React.
• Experience with vector and motion graphics, including SVG, HTML5, Canvas, and Animation via JavaScript and CSS.
• Experience with 3D or Autodesk products.
• Experience with agile software design and development methods.
