Involvement in U.S. tax return preparation.
  • Gathering information required for the preparation of U.S. tax returns from finance team and local controllers.
  • Analyze and verify information provided by finance team and local controllers to ensure consistency.
  • Preparation of tax packages and workpapers for annual U.S. tax returns to be reviewed by Director, U.S. Tax
  • Preparation of U.S. federal proforma returns to be reviewed by Director, U.S. Tax.
  • Addressing and updating tax packages, workpapers and federal proformas for comments made by external consultants.
  • Review consolidated federal return by external consultants.
  • Prepare reconciling and backup calculations as part of reviewing federal and state returns prepared by external consultants.
  • Prepare certain state returns for internal review and submission.
Revision of dues and document requests.
  • Analyze U.S. tax assessments and statements of account.
  • Communicating with tax authorities via e-mail and phone.
  • Respond to requests for information (desk audit) from tax authorities (including search for supporting documents and follow-up with tax authorities) under the supervision of the Director, U.S. Taxation.
Support for tax provision calculation.
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions for U.S. legal entities.
  • Prepare reconciliations between tax provisions and previous year\'s tax returns ("true-up")
  • Support the head office tax department.
Make extension request.
  • Prepare estimate of tax owing on original due date of returns for review by Director, U.S. Tax.
  • Make required electronic payments to tax authorities via federal and state portals.
  • Notify treasury of cash outflows and provide them with tax journal entries to post.
Making quarterly instalments.
  • Prepare calculation file for review Director, U.S. Tax.
  • Make required electronic payments to tax authorities via federal and state portals.

Perform related tasks.
  • Prepare non-income tax forms to be submitted to relevant authorities. Examples include filing quarterly federal excise tax form (Form 720), annual withholding tax return (Form 1042) and foreign bank account reports (FinCen Form 114).
  • Provide financial and tax related information to legal department to assist in filing of certain reports.
  • Ensure all work performed by U.S. tax team meets internal control procedures and standards.
  • Support the head office tax department.
When your expertise drives us.
  • University diploma in accounting.
  • Training in taxation an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and/or tax compliance.
  • Hold an accounting designation or be in the process of obtaining one, an asset.
  • Interest in the taxation of large, international companies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel essential.
  • Bilingualism essential in French and English, both spoken and written. Spanish an asset.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters tax preparation software an asset.
  • Inquisitive and possessing a willingness to learn and grow within U.S. tax area of knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate and work with individuals in several departments and cities when gathering information necessary for tax returns.
