About the role
We're looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our growing Technology & Life Sciences team!
This position is open to candidates in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
What you'll do here:
Manage and develop a profitable book of business, by leveraging business relationships, product knowledge and underwriting acumen. Maintain underwriting quality and book management, which includes: executing underwriting strategy, adhering to underwriting standards and guidelines, self-auditing new and renewal business and documenting approvals of underwriting edits. Ensures compliance with standards and assigned underwriting authorities
Develop and maintain superior working relationships with our broker network to successfully promote achievement of mutual growth and profitability goals, and to supply the appropriate products and services. Identify gaps in coverage and/or services and provide recommendations on those gaps to retain or obtain customers
Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events, travel as necessary and remain highly visible in marketplace
Provide ongoing support in expanding the department, and make recommendations for process improvements
Provide guidance and technical advice to underwriters and underwriting assistants, mentor and coach more junior team members, support team members within Specialty Solutions as well as other divisions at Intact
What you bring to the table:
University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
Minimum 5 to 7 years of Commercial Underwriting experience with Life Sciences, E&O and/or Cyber Underwriting experience being an asset
Established broker relationships, with an ability to maintain and develop new relationships
Skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders
Detail oriented, analytical, self-motivated and strive to deliver at a high standard
Initiative and ability to work while managing competing priorities
Strong team player, with outstanding collaboration and communication skills
Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry
Flexible to travel
Strong knowledge in Excel is an asset
CIP designation or working towards it
