We are looking to hire two new team members either as a Senior Engineering Underwriter to Engineering Underwriter

About the team

We are a large international team with presence in 14 of our offices around the world. Our task is to conduct risk assessments and develop reinsurance solutions for our Engineering insurance clients. Our team has a wide range of different technical, engineering, and scientific backgrounds and experiences complemented by strong team spirit. The Global Engineering team provides insights and seeks to maximize our impact on our clients\' needs in the Engineering space, by providing a suite of solutions such as treaty reinsurance, facultative reinsurance, parametric products, technical underwriting insights, insurtech solutions and more.

About the role

Senior Underwriter Engineering

As a Senior Engineering Underwriter, you would assume a leading role in the technical underwriting of our Engineering Reinsurance Portfolio in US, with a special focus on large and complex construction business (Builder\'s Risk/ CAR/EAR). Your responsibilities will include assisting the team lead in developing marketing plans: identifying, analyzing, and pursuing growth opportunities, and managing the entire underwriting process. Furthermore, you may also be required to contribute to regional and global projects, work in deal teams and accept special assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and assist implementation of strategic initiatives for the Engineering line of business.
  • Underwrite Construction & Engineering facultative and facility business in the US market, including technical assessment, wording review, and negotiation with the clients for facultative business (Mainly Builder\'s Risk, CAR/EAR, and Civil Engineering Completed Risks).
  • Generate new business opportunities, analyzing and assessing the technical insurability in respect of exposures and coverages.
  • Provide competent and fast service to our clients, with advice, special acceptances, training and workshops.
  • Represent Swiss Re America in meetings with brokers and clients, and at industry events.
Underwriter Engineering

As an Underwriter, you will work closely to clients in U.S. and Canada, generating new business opportunities, analyzing, and assessing the technical insurability in respect of exposures and coverages, reviewing cover structures, wordings, and proposals, and preparing quotations. You will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of the clients\' requirements and expectations and to lead discussions and negotiations with new and existing brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite Construction & Engineering facultative and facility business with focus on United States and Canada markets, including technical assessment, wording review, and negotiation with the clients for facultative business. (Mainly Builder\'s Risk, CAR/EAR, and Civil Engineering Completed Risks).
  • Source new Construction & Engineering business by deepening relationships with insurance companies and brokers. Position Swiss Re as client\'s preferred partner.
  • Provide competent and fast service to our clients, with advice, special acceptances, training, and workshops.
  • Represent Swiss Re America in meetings with brokers and clients, and at industry events.
About you

Senior Engineering Underwriter

Essentials:
  • In depth knowledge of P&C insurance industry, Engineering and Builder\'s Risk underwriting, and the Engineering insurance market
  • 7 - 10 years of strong underwriting experience and customer-focused mindset
  • Knowledge of insurance pricing, risk selection, policy wordings and underwriting practice.
  • Collaborate with fellow Engineering underwriters and other stakeholders across the world to deliver the right solutions to our clients
  • Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel
Nice-to-Haves
  • College degree in fields such as Engineering or Mathematics, highly preferred.
  • Broad network of broker and client contacts (within the Construction and Builder\'s Risk community)
Underwriter Engineering

You are a self-starter, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-focused environment, and deliver on tight deadlines. You are curious, results-oriented, show initiative and accountability, and take responsibility for your decisions. You demonstrate a high-level of interest and desire to learn about technical subject matter.

Essentials:
  • 3 - 5 years of underwriting experience, Engineering, Builder\'s Risk or Property preferred
  • Ability to confidently communicate and interact professionally with clients, business partners and senior colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong analytical skills.
Nice to Haves
  • Colleage degree preferably in fields such as Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Willingness to travel.
