Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Truss and EWP Designer to join our design team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating accurate, build-ready roof truss drawings and specifications that meet client requirements, local codes, and industry standards. You will collaborate with sales staff and project management to ensure designs are efficient, cost-effective, and feasible for fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce accurate truss layouts wood roof trusses using MiTek software (Sapphire, Engineering, Management).
Interpret architectural plans, structural calculations, and client specifications to develop viable truss designs.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable Building Codes (e.g., NBCC, local amendments) and industry standards.
Review and revise designs based on engineering feedback, site conditions, and manufacturing constraints.
Collaborate with sales, estimators, and production supervisors to optimize material usage and production efficiency.
Create and maintain design templates, standards, and documentation for consistency.
Assist in quality control, field adjustments, and problem-solving for any design-related issues.
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in truss design.
Proven experience designing wood roof trusses in a manufacturing or construction environment.
Proficiency with MiTek software (Sapphire, Engineering, Management).
Solid understanding of structural behavior, load paths, and timber species/grades.
Familiarity with Building Code requirements and truss shop practices.
Strong mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Ability to read and interpret architectural/structural drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, production scheduling, and BOM creation is a plus.
