Senior Transportation Engineer & Project Manager

Region: Pacific (British Columbia)

Reports To: Pacific Regional General Manager

Classification: Exempt

Job Summary

The Senior Transportation Engineer & Project Manager will provide strong internal leadership and technical oversight to a growing multi-disciplinary team focused on providing innovative, high-quality engineering solutions to TWD\xe2\x80\x99s clients. They will also be a key individual in maintaining and cultivating client relationships across our buildings & infrastructure portfolio. This individual will possess a unique background, having demonstrated a history of delivering successful technical engineering solutions, with a good sense of business acumen, as well as strong interpersonal skills. TWD views this role as a key strategic position to both grow the business in Western Canada as well as support long-term succession planning within the organization.

Job Duties

1. Project Management & Technical Leadership (75%)

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to multi-disciplinary buildings & infrastructure project teams.
  • Manage transportation engineering projects including work on intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic and street lighting, light rail transit (LRT), EV charging and other transportation and municipal projects.
  • Ensure effective oversight of project management controls, standards and processes associated with the broader transportation team and project execution.
  • Continuous development of technical expertise on a variety of transportation engineering projects from preliminary concept and design to detailed engineering and construction phases.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to intermediate and junior team members including technical direction, training recommendations and coaching.
  • Manage or assist in the preparation of contract documentation, including contract drawings, specifications, cost estimating, budgets, tender packages and scheduling.
  • Be the primary point of contact for key client relationships and consultants with responsibility for management of client communications, progress meetings and project status reports including billing and project changes notices.
  • Manage construction implementation projects, and/or provide a contract administration role.
  • Provide engineering support services during the construction phase of projects.
  • Ensure the fundamentals of successful project execution are incorporated into the regional processes with the goal of increasing client satisfaction.
2. Business Development & Growth of Existing Client Base (25%)
  • Be informed of trends in transportation infrastructure and current and potential future consulting opportunities.
  • In conjunction with your Regional General Manager and support from Business Development (BD), lead local BD efforts to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals including technical requirements, estimates and scheduling.
  • Help grow and develop new client relationships in the broader BC Region.
  • Support BD in establishing and maintaining a culture of Seller-Doers amongst TWD staff.
  • Lead and/or participate in presentations for new opportunities, acting as an experienced voice representing TWD experience and expertise.
  • Work with other teams across the organization (e.g. Corporate PMO/Engineering, Document Control, Quality, HR, Finance, etc.) to support local activity and achieve successful regional business outcomes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Engineering with 15+ years of related experience. A British Columbia P.Eng and/or PMP designation would be an asset.
  • Related experience to include the following:
  • Infrastructure and/or Buildings Design
  • Transportation / Traffic Engineering
  • Prime Consultant experience in the Canadian marketplace
  • Project Management experience with projects up to $250M capital cost

  • An effective problem solver with the ability to think through projects, programs and proposals to identify potential issues and resolve them proactively.
