Position Summary:
The Senior Tool and Die Designer will involve progressive die and magazine fed tooling design or development for the OEM and aftermarket automotive industry, creating tooling drawings for die manufacturing and assembly, production support consisting of in press trouble shooting and problem solving, training and development of junior design staff. This role requires frequent interaction with external customers, multiple departments and senior management within the organization's multiple locations.
Responsibilities:
Design and detail both OEM and aftermarket progressive stamping dies and fixtures.
Support tool room and production with die assembly and in press trouble shooting solutions.
Create and maintain technical information for products, such as, working drawings, bill of materials, and technical data that defines product requirements.
Develop material flow simulations using Deform software.
Assess customer part drawings and create strip layouts to support die & production cost estimates for job quoting.
Assist in the training and development of junior design staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
5 years tooling design experience.
Strong background in metal stamping, progressive stamping preferred.
Experience in die making and production troubleshooting related to metal stamping is an asset.
College diploma in either tool and die making or tool and die design or equivalent education.
Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, report and presentation skills.
General understanding of machining and die assembly practices.
Reading and interpreting technical drawings.
Problem identification and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to be innovative and creative ('outside the box' thinking).
Proficient with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD. PC skills; proficient with Microsoft Office.
Working Conditions:
In office presence required Monday-Friday.
Manufacturing plant with visits to the toolroom.
