Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Technology Architect to join our Voluntary Benefits initiative.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Technology Architect to join Equitable\'s Group Insurance Technology team. The role will help to push forward Group Insurance\'s application architecture vision by creating guidance and mechanisms that enable growth and coordinates our business strategy. The Technology Architect will collaborate with the other architects, DevOps leads and project team members to define target state solutions and architecture. The Senior Technology Architect will work with the lead and assist in end-to-end solutioning for products that will interact with our clients and advisors.

What you will be doing:

  • Help to identify, research, prototype, and recommend relevant technologies for future product architecture to meet business strategies for large scale/complex portfolio of IT and business platforms with a focus on the generation of communications, as well as the orchestration and delivery through multiple digital channels, while tracking state of communication and triggering next steps.
  • You will align with technology governance, enterprise architecture and review processes. You will help define and roll out team standards and provide governance that will ensure successful designs and team success.
  • Support and participate in technology product evaluations.
  • Define and document efficient and transparent architectural principles and guidelines.
  • Assist in the Development and maintain technology roadmaps in consultation with the Business and IT leadership teams.
  • Lead and facilitate the design and implementation of repeatable technical solutions and processes related to technology architecture.
  • Consult with product development and infrastructure teams.
  • Ensure product solutions meet security requirements.
  • Design program/project architecture following compliance with IT standards, policies and architectural plans.
  • Ensure that project documentation captures significant architectural decisions.
  • Mentor developers through processes such as peer reviews
What you will bring:
  • Strong skills in trouble shooting, software development or system engineering.
  • Ability to define solutions based on client journeys and/or experiences.
  • Knowledge leveraging and integrating with vendor platforms, including holding vendors to a technical standard.
  • Cloud Native Architecture and development skills with preference to the following:
  • App Services (App Plans)
  • Container Apps
  • Cosmos DB or other No SQL databases
  • API and microservice development
  • Application Insights
  • Azure App Configuration Service
  • Key Vault
  • Azure Storage
  • APIM
  • Containerization
  • Understanding of common Architecture patterns (e.g. Microservices, SOA, Event sourcing, etc.).
  • Hands on experience with data and application integration patterns (Domain-Driven, APIs, messaging, streaming, sync/async).
  • Previous experience developing PWA, SPA, and Responsive web applications, along with IdPs, .Net/C#, React
  • Database knowledge including
  • MS SQL Server environments including tooling such as SQL Profiler, Query Store and tuning.
  • NoSQL databases with preference to Cosmos DB
  • DevOps experience including branching and release patterns, source control, CI/CD processes and release pipelines.
