Overview:
Senior Technician \xe2\x80\x93 Workplace Technology, provides intermediate level consulting, technical planning, technical design/architecture and operational support as well as second level and occasionally third level application and/or infrastructure administration related to Endpoint & VDI management. The role works on assignments that are complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine decisions. The position also assists others in more junior roles.

What you will be doing:
System Administration

Provides second and third level system support. Specific to Microsoft SCCM, Intune, Windows 10 & VDI

Provides second and sometimes third level system administration including but not limited to system architecture changes, upgrade planning and scripting; some tasks without previously defined rules or documentation.

Identifies connections, patterns or trends and makes recommendations for action.

Identifies systems and processes that can be standardized, defines and prioritizes initiatives and implements.

Implements and maintains preventive maintenance processes, standards and tools to ensure optimal system up-time of production systems.

Remains current on operation system administration procedures and best practices and ensures learning is documented and disseminated accordingly.

Updates knowledge of accepted industry and company standards to improve service delivery.

Own his/her team problem/incident/change management processes.

Educates peers and customers when appropriate.

Coaches Support Specialist team members.

Ensures solutions do not negatively impact other parts of the system or introduce new defects.

Projects

Acts as a resource on projects as required.

Performs knowledge transfer and training between IS and other our business units.

Informs Project and/or Resource Manager on any issues or risks.

Assists Management in planning short to medium term work goals (1 to 6 months).

Carries out other related tasks and projects as assigned.

Project Coordination

Ensures hardware and software assets are recorded and kept up to date in assets management database.

Prepares and monitors hardware and software purchase request, assists in tracking project spend.

Identifies and recommends supplier(s) and provides suggestions on the selection to procure hardware and software commodities.

Liaises between different project teams and Purchasing Department to coordinate hardware and software acquisition timeline.

Hardware and Software Asset Management

Determines inventory requirements (on-hand inventory) to meet project plan deadlines or requirements to meet end user\xe2\x80\x99s needs.

Prepares hardware/software purchase requests according to required project schedule.

Receives invoices through financial system for budgeting and accrual purposes.

Updates help desk incident tracking tool after product is received. Creates an installation assignment when appropriate, based on requirements.

Conducts regular audits of hardware/software inventory against assets management database to ensure records are up to date.

Creates and completes non-disclosure agreements as requested by Project Managers.

Reviews existing contracts and negotiates contract renewals including costs, terms, and conditions prior to signing to ensure financial conditions can be met.

Maintains hardware/software contracts/agreements within the electronic tracking system and provides renewal schedules. Reconciles all licenses and maintains our ongoing contractual relationships with vendors.

Reconciles inventory and financial information for all maintenance agreements.

Financial Analysis

Coordinates and monitors budget transactions and resolves issues as they arise (e.g. Consults with Finance on allocation of grant dollars based on the project criteria and makes recommendations to Finance as to allocation/coding of project dollars).

Supports IS department for budget and Procurement card accruals and reconciliation. Assists with budgetary year-end projections and future forecasting, including cash flows and other financial reporting.

Assists AVP of Business Solutions, Director of Technology Solutions and Manager of Security and Network with detailed budget setting and forecasting.

Provides and maintains labour report for team members from HRWare to IS CIO, AVP, Director and Managers for budgetary purposes.

Ensures goods and services provided to IS are ordered, received, and accrued in a timely manner to meet budget deadlines.

Develops, maintains, and provides IS Managers with spending report for capital business cases on a monthly basis or as required.

Responds to general inquiries regarding hardware warranty, software licensing and financial information pertaining to the IS team.

Works on special projects for the CIO as required, primarily around licensing, contracts, and budgeting/forecasting.

What you must have:

Education: Degree in IT

Experience: 5 years system administration and project coordination in the IT industry.

Technical: Experience with SCCM, VDI, Intune, Networks, Windows 10, O365, Active Directory, VMWare, Exchange, SharePoint, Virtual Desktop Environment (VDI)

Knowledge of Service Level Agreements (SLA\xe2\x80\x99s), Operating Level Agreements (OLA\xe2\x80\x99s)

Familiar with Project Management, ITIL, & ITSM methodologies

Excellent listening skills

Troubleshooting methodologies

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

Ability to work both independently and with other team members

Demonstrated ability to be proactive when dealing with issues and challenges

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills

Nice to have:

SCCM packaging experience including installation scripting with PowerShell/VB

MS SCCM/Intune device management; imaging and software deployment

Cisco IP Phones and applications (Cisco Finesse, call manger, Jabber, WebEx, and video conferencing)

Experience managing/supporting Virtual Desktop Environment (VDI) ex. Amazon Workspaces
