About the Opportunity
Our Public Sector Client is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer. This role provides critical documentation support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) strategic satellite communications operations.
Working within a highly technical environment, the successful candidate will help ensure the clarity, accessibility, and consistency of technical documentation for projects and related systems.
The Senior Technical Writer will provide comprehensive writing, editing, and documentation quality assurance services aligned with and Government of Canada standards. This work supports programs through the creation of structured, accessible, and user-focused technical content across all project phases.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Documentation Development: Create, revise, and maintain technical and contractual documentation, ensuring clarity for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance: Review and edit documentation to meet GC, ISO 9001, and WCAG 2.2 standards, ensuring consistency across documentation
  • Template and Tool Development: Design and maintain document templates, macros, and styles for program deliverables such as SOWs, SORs, CDRLs, DIDs, TCRs, and TWPs aligned with GC standards
  • Technical Liaison and Information Gathering: Collaborate with engineers, subject-matter experts, and project managers to gather technical information and translate complex concepts into clear, accurate documentation
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: Ensure all documentation complies with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and is inclusive for diverse users
  • Communications and Repository Management: Support the development of a documentation governance plan and repository, ensuring proper version control and quality assurance processes
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Certificate in Technical Writing from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution (mandatory)
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years within the last ten (10) as a Senior Technical Writer supporting large-scale IT, Telecommunications, or Hardware/Software systems
  • Experience developing documentation through all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) or equivalent engineering lifecycle
  • Proven ability to produce installation, configuration, and operations manuals for integrated hardware and software systems
  • Demonstrated experience liaising with engineers and subject-matter experts to translate highly technical information into clear, end-user documentation
  • Experience developing technical documentation for large-scale telecommunications systems (e.g., satellite, wireless, VoIP, or network infrastructure)
  • At least five (5) years of experience creating or standardizing documentation templates, style guides, or automated macros for complex engineering projects
  • At least five (5) years producing, revising, and quality-assuring technical documentation within a Government of Canada program or project environment
  • Experience editing to meet ISO 9001 quality standards and WCAG 2.x or Government of Canada documentation standards
  • English Essential (Advanced oral, written, and comprehension skills)
  • Secret Level Security Clearance is required
About the Job
  • Duration: 48 weeks (approx. November 2025 - October 2026), with possible extension
  • Location: 295 Coventry Road, Ottawa, ON
  • Work Environment: Hybrid - primarily Ottawa-based with potential travel to sites within Canada and overseas (estimated annual travel cost $10,000 and overtime budget $5,000)
