And this is where you come inxe2x80xa6The Senior Lighter is responsible for crafting the visual atmosphere and mood that will inform gameplay and captivate players. They collaborate closely with our Art, Design, and Engineering teams to ensure that the Lighting across disciplines enhances the overall artistic direction and gameplay narrative. A Senior Lighter may be asked to perform minor leadership duties, such as mentoring/managing a Junior member of the Lighting team.In this role, you can expect to be responsible for:

  • Lighting Leadership, Coaching, Mentorship
  • Proactive and concise communication with Art Directors, Art Leads, Design Leads, and Engineering.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of current lighting technologies, constraints, and future trends.
  • Establish best practices and mentor and train junior lighters.
  • Lighting Artistic Development
  • Craft lighting which enhances and supports the Artistic tone, Direction, and Gameplay narratives.
  • Translate conceptual illustrations into real-time lighting in game.
  • Work closely with other Art groups to maintain cohesive lighting between their assets ensuring lighting complements the overall design.
  • Lighting Technical Development
  • Enhance the look and feel of characters and game environments by using lighting technologies such as PBR, HDR, subsurface scattering, dynamic and static lighting, global illumination, and post-processing effects.
  • Work with Technical Art and Rendering teams to create new tools and features.
  • Optimize lighting to meet performance targets while maintaining visual quality, considering various platforms and hardware constraints.
  • Troubleshoot with Art and Engineering teams to resolve lighting-related issues in the game, providing creative solutions to technical challenges.
To be successful in this role, your background includes:
  • Portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of lighting in various game environments.
  • 1+ shipped titles as a Senior Lighting Artist.
  • Strong understanding of lighting techniques, color theory, and composition.
  • Strong understanding of Physically Based Rendering and Shading.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard lighting software, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Crytek, or other relevant tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for visual quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Photography, Cinematograph, and real world lighting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and texturing.

$98,880 - $130,000 a yearThe typical hiring range listed above is specific to candidates located in Vancouver.
