ISL is seeking a Senior Structural Technologist to join our expanding structures team in our beautiful Burnaby and Langley, BC offices. The scope for the role depends on your experience level, but in all cases, the focus will be to continue the growth of ISL's structural engineering services in Western Canada, which vary from standalone bridge design, to coordinated multidisciplinary projects in support of our water wastewater, landscape architecture and transportation engineering groups. When it comes to bridges and other structures, ISL's strongest niches include highway bridge design and rehabilitation; challenging pedestrian bridge design, particularly those with complicated construction staging or remote access; mass-timber bridges of all styles; the inspection of all kinds of bridge structures, from long-span tied arches to mountain trail bridges at high altitudes; retaining walls, culverts and transportation infrastructure; and the seismic retrofit and rehabilitation of bridges and buildings.

Your resume should show us:



Technical College Diploma or equivalent experience is required Minimum 15 years of experience in bridge engineering consulting or equivalent Proven ability to meet deadlines and to work in a group environment Ability to visualize and project 3D objects into 2D views (and vice-versa) Familiarity with the concepts of project setup and workflow AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience (terrain modelling a definite asset) Quality and Drawing Management Systems

Bonus points for:



Registration as an AScT or similar Preference will be given to candidates with experience / education in the following: bridges, structural, and related drafting/design, particularly with BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit Familiarity with Canadian design codes and standards Experience or willingness to assist in occasional construction supervision in conjunction with other professionals Construction and/or survey experience is desirable

Responsibilities:



Working alongside a team of engineers to prepare and develop layouts, designs, and estimates from general instructions and preliminary sketches, diagrams or schematics Recommending modifications and changes for design improvement, conflicts, simplification, and adherence with provincial codes and standards Preparing working drawings from conceptual layouts to detailed finished products Assisting in producing renderings for proposals and conceptual designs Coordination of responsibilities on structural and multidisciplinary projects Conducting quality control activities for independent review and checking of multidisciplinary drawings Preparation and assembly of multiple deliverables under tight timeframes Completion of drawings with 3D models and 2D sections Applying a practical approach to work, balancing requirements with delivery schedules Ensuring that drawings are prepared based on specific project drafting standards Ensuring accuracy of scale and confirm the accuracy of geometric information presented on drawings Performing quantity takeoffs based on drawing information Supervising and mentoring junior and intermediate technicians

Depending on your experience level, the salary range for this is:

$100,000 - $135,000 (based on a 40-hr work week, not including overtime)
