Job Description


Job Summary

The Senior Specialist, ESG is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of a cohesive ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategy, and has an expert understanding of applicable reporting frameworks. Fluency in ESG issues, knowledge of industry and regulatory expectations, and the ability to partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders on reporting is necessary.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESG \xe2\x80\x93 90% of duties

  • Be part of the team that implements a comprehensive ESG strategy that informs and engages stakeholders and motivates team members
  • Member of the ESG Committee, while also supporting work of other committee members
  • Participate in external environmental committees/coalitions, as necessary
  • Monitor and research ESG developments and government policies, particularly related to aviation
  • Engage the private sector and academia to advance knowledge on environmental topics
  • Collaborate on environmental projects with other teams, such as reducing waste and single-use plastic on aircraft, electrification of ground equipment, etc.
  • Support gathering GHG emissions data, development of targets and verification
  • Oversee formal reporting, including producing required reports (e.g., TCFD), management of climate risk assessments and scenario analysis work
  • Shared responsibility for mandatory and voluntary carbon trading and offset programs
  • Develop, in collaboration with the strategic sourcing departments, a medium- and long-term sourcing strategy for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
  • Work with the People & Culture team to facilitate Porter\xe2\x80\x99s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plans as it relates to ESG
  • Support development, management and monitoring of charitable activities
  • Develop ESG-related budgets and assist with administrative support
Communications & Public Affairs \xe2\x80\x93 10% of duties
  • Supports overall communications efforts, proactively providing independent advice to mitigate and resolve crises and issues
  • Maintains relationships with government officials and stakeholders
  • Writes materials for internal and external audiences, including news releases, key messages, intranet content, reports and letters
  • Contributes to team engagement initiatives that advance business strategies, including Executive Communications, People & Culture priorities and Rewards & Recognition programs
  • Participate in other projects at the direction of the Executive Leadership Team and/or Director, Communications & Public Affairs

Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in ESG, environmental science, sustainable development or a related field
  • Experience in quantifying GHG emissions, assessing decarbonization pathways and defining and executing reduction targets
  • Experience in developing and analyzing climate change risk assessments, implementing climate strategies and disclosure for organizations
  • Application of TCFD recommendations
  • Knowledge of aviation-specific regulatory requirements (CORSIA, IATA, ICAO, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to bring forward strategic insights and translate them into practical programs
  • Ability to work directly with senior leaders on confidential and time-sensitive projects
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Requirement to track,measure and report project results
  • Budgeting and planning experience with strong business acumen
  • Aviation industry experience is an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Flexible to travel on short notice
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Must pass security screening and qualify for secure airport access
