Recruitment range: $95,649- $105,476 starting salar

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. Job Summary

Mandate

The Senior Space Planner advances the strategic and effective use of space across the university by leading functional planning and optimization initiatives that align with institutional priorities. This role supports executive decision-making through data-driven analysis, stakeholder engagement, and integrated planning that reflects UVic's commitments to accessibility, sustainability, and academic excellence.

Objectives

Lead campus-wide functional space planning and optimization initiatives to support evolving academic, research, and administrative needs. Analyze space utilization data and trends that will inform allocation decisions and strategic planning. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop inclusive, efficient, and adaptable interior layouts that align with institutional priorities. Support planning and governance processes by preparing reports, studies, and documentation that guide space-related decision-making. Ensure space planning practices reflect best practices in accessibility, sustainability, and post-secondary design standards.

While it is anticipated that in large part the work of the Senior Space Planner will require an on-campus presence, depending on prioritized work activities and associated deadlines, some level of flexibility may be feasible, consistent with the university's flexible work policy.


Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training and experience equivalent to a university degree in architecture, interior design or a related field, plus a minimum of eight years' experience in space analysis, functional programming, planning, optimization and integrated feasibility and pre-design services related to the post-secondary institutional environment or similar. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse campus stakeholders. Experience facilitating consultation processes to diverse audiences for the purpose of educating or realizing change and supporting innovation. Demonstrated contract management experience and ability to oversee and motivate a team of professionals. Experience with a variety of data platforms and tools that would support data-informed decision making and track strategic outcomes. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret space usage data and develop actionable recommendations. Knowledge of building and fire codes, regulations, accessibility and sustainability practices. Ability to integrate costing and scheduling inputs into planning initiatives to support feasibility and actionability. Familiarity with space planning and utilization software (e.g., AutoCAD, BIM or similar tools) and an ability to assess architectural and construction documents to inform planning and decision making. Ability to think strategically and make decisions that align with long-term institutional goals.

Assets:

Ability to understand post-secondary academic programming, enrolment, research activity, and institutional plans as they relate to long-term space requirements. Membership in good standing with relevant professional organizations (e.g., RAIC, AIBC, NCIDQ). LEED ID+C credential. WELL AP credential. Membership in the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Professional Network with certified assessor status. Credential in facilities management or space planning (e.g., IFMA, BOMA, APPA). Project management certification (e.g., CAPM, PMP, or Prince2). Certification in change management (e.g., ACMP) or process improvement (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
