Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic Senior Sous Chef to join our high-volume kitchen operations. This role demands a culinary professional who excels in mise en place preparation, meal prep service, and catering operations. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader capable of managing teams, developing culturally diverse recipes, and handling physical demands including deliveries and heavy lifting.
The Senior Sous Chef will report directly to the Executive Chef and represent them in their absence, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across all culinary operations..
What You'll Do:
Kitchen Leadership & Operations:
Lead and manage daily kitchen operations with emphasis on mise en place preparation and service efficiency
Execute high-volume meal prep service for daily operations and client meal programs
Oversee catering operations from planning through execution for events and large-scale orders
Collaborate with Executive Chef to execute diverse, culturally-inspired menus
Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards across all dishes
Team Management & Development:
Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, fostering professional growth and teamwork
Demonstrate strong time management skills while coordinating multiple team members
Train team on proper techniques for cultural dishes and authentic preparation methods
Maintain positive kitchen culture under pressure
Recipe Development & Cultural Expertise:
Develop and refine recipes showcasing cultural diversity, particularly dishes from North and Central Africa, Middle East, and South Asia
Ensure authentic flavors while maintaining food cost controls
Adapt traditional recipes for large-scale production
Document recipes and standardize preparation methods
Operational Responsibilities:
Manage inventory, food ordering, and waste reduction aligned with cost controls
Perform deliveries using company vehicle (clean driving record required)
Handle physical demands including lifting 50+ lbs and extended standing periods
Maintain highest food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
Complete administrative duties: inventory tracking, cost sheets, purchase orders
What We're Looking For:
Essential Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years experience as Sous Chef in high-volume, fast-paced kitchen
Strong mise en place expertise and service management skills
Meal prep service experience - ability to efficiently execute daily meal preparation programs
Catering service experience with ability to manage large-scale events and orders
Cultural culinary knowledge - experience with diverse international cuisines preferred
Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for delivery responsibilities
Physical capability to lift heavy objects (50+ lbs) and work extended periods
Leadership & Skills:
Proven supervisory experience with ability to manage and motivate teams
Excellent time management and multitasking abilities
Strong recipe development and menu planning skills
Knowledge of food costing, inventory management, and kitchen financials
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality and positive attitude
Clear criminal record check and child abuse registry required
Technical Requirements:
High school education minimum; culinary arts diploma/degree preferred
Red Seal certification or equivalent strongly preferred
Proficient in Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Job Type:
Term position (6 months with strong potential of renewal) Full-time 40 hours per week, 8 hours shift: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Physical demands: Heavy lifting, extended standing, fast-paced environment
Delivery responsibilities: some of the catering deliveries require using personal vehicle
Location of services: different locations, therefore a personal vehicle is a requirement for commuting
The successful candidate must be prepared to undergo a Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry check.
