Job Description


A Senior Solution Designer is required to support six geospatial and infrastructure modernization projects within a hybrid work environment based in Peterborough, Ontario (option to work from Toronto or remotely). The role is focused on designing modern, high-performance GIS and IT solutions across multiple platforms including Esri, ArcGIS, Microsoft Azure, and various spatial database technologies.
Our client is looking for an ideal candidate that brings a strong technical foundation in geospatial systems, solution architecture, and public-sector IT project environments. This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite / 2 days remote) with a potential short extension.

Responsibilities

  • Support six active GIS infrastructure and application modernization projects
  • Design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using Esri-based geospatial systems
  • Conduct modernization analysis and develop solution options for legacy GIS tools
  • Collaborate on the provisioning and deployment of federated ArcGIS Enterprise Portals
  • Lead solution planning and architecture documentation, ensuring standard compliance
  • Provide input into procurement planning, middleware selection, and long-term service planning
  • Ensure best practices are followed for security, recovery, and infrastructure resilience
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement and knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Create and present reports and recommendations to technical and business teams
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise-wide architecture and digital modernization strategy
Qualifications
Must Have:
  • 5+ years' experience in IT solution design for complex, enterprise-level systems
  • Deep knowledge of Esri technologies including:
  • ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Image Server
Strong background in IT infrastructure and middleware design, including:
  • Microsoft Azure, Azure SQL DB, MS Fabric
  • Oracle Spatial, PostgreSQL, midrange and enterprise storage systems
  • Proven experience developing technical documentation and cost-benefit analyses
  • Ability to gather and interpret business requirements for long-term technical solutions
  • Knowledge of security, availability, and disaster recovery design principles
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills
Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with legacy system modernization strategies (e.g., FME, LIO Editor migration)
  • Experience working on public sector or multi-ministry shared infrastructure projects
  • Understanding of government I&IT architecture governance, standards, and procurement processes
  • Experience designing solutions in alignment with AODA and public sector accessibility standards
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and consensus-building across diverse teams
