The Role: Senior Software Engineer - Data Science

The Waterloo Engineering team has multiple responsibilities for the design and evolution of the core operating system, features, and product delivery of our web security and cloud roadmaps. We work on cutting edge technologies and build solutions that makes the world a safer place.

We are looking for highly motivated and self-driven senior software engineer for our cloud based Security as a Service product. This unique opportunity offers a chance to work in cutting edge cloud technologies and highly competent environment. We are looking for a senior software engineer to lead a new initiative using data analytics and machine learning techniques to data mine meaningful telemetry from our billions of statistics generated every day from our vast cloud operations.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop a scalable telemetry solution for the existing world wide Symantec private cloud system
• Identify the metrics required in various data center components to easily predict / root cause issues and can help in ensuring SLAs
• Develop efficient systems to process existing metrics and logs. Make use of this data for troubleshooting and issue prediction
• Develop systems that can predict imminent issues / outages that would impact SLAs.
• Enhance the existing machine learning system that detects and assists in root-causing cloud issues
• Troubleshoot, root cause and identify solution to cloud problems that the NOC cannot otherwise identify
• Provide required technical guidance and leadership for software development projects from cloud serviceability aspects
• Work with architects, various development teams and the network operations center (NOC) on the cloud roadmap

Requirements

• Experience in trouble shooting of large scale distributed and fault tolerant complex cloud systems
• Expert data analyst who could root cause complex issues based on anomalies in various system metrics
• Experience in use of machine learning and artificial intelligence for analyzing time series data
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to isolate and fix complex problems
• Excellent understanding of Internet protocols, especially TCP/IP, IPSec, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP/S, etc.
• Understanding of routing, switching, load balancing concepts
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in Python, MySQL/Oracle, Grafana, timeseries database such as InfluxDB / Graphite
• Bachelor or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent is required with a minimum of 7 years of development experience

Desirable skills

• Knowledge in enterprise security in areas such as encryptions, authentication, firewalls, proxy servers, VPN, IPsec and Proxy
• Familiarity with public cloud services such as Rackspace, AWS, Oracle and Google
