We are the education that students will take with them, no matter where the path may lead them.About the Senior Science Technician role:Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Pathways Programs, the Senior Science Technician is responsible for coordinating and maintaining all science lab activities including researching, developing, preparing lab experiments and complimentary resources (e.g. lab manuals, safety videos etc.), for faculty consideration. During labs, the Senior Science Technologist demonstrates correct procedures and practices in the wet lab and assists faculty by providing students with practical explanations for the operation of instruments and reinforcement of previously taught concepts. Labs are facilitated across several different science disciplines including biology, chemistry, biochemistry and physics.In addition, the Senior Science Technologist takes the lead in maintaining the effective and efficient operation of the lab including maintaining an inventory of chemicals, glassware, laboratory equipment and supplies. Furthermore, the Senior Science Technologist is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of the lab space and storage areas in order to mitigate health and safety hazards and to optimize the learning space for students. This includes: preparing chemical solutions for use in the laboratory; setting up experiments for class; breaking down equipment at the conclusion of experiments; coordinating disposal of excess and outdated chemicals and other materials; ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and that everything is clearly and correctly labelled according to provincial health and safety legislation. Finally, the Senior Science Technologist keeps up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability, while serving as a technical resource to students and faculty and creating all health and safety protocols to ensure a safe lab experience.QualificationsAbout You:

  • Minimum five years practical working experience in industry
  • Experience necessary to understand the operation of a multipurpose wet lab including chemistry, biochemistry, biology and physics
