THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Director of Sales, the
Senior Sales Manager
is responsible for reactive and proactive sales efforts for assigned market segments to achieve property sales objectives according to the Marriott Residence Inn brand.
Target, solicit and penetrate new accounts in the Corporate and Corporate Group segments.
Conduct outside sales calls, telephone solicitation and site inspections to build relationships, aggressively targeting new business and grow accounts.
Attend industry events, educational workshops, trade shows, and company sponsored conferences at times, after hours.
Participate in industry related clubs, societies, organizations and/or committees which may entail after hour meetings.
Entertain clients on/off-site; representing the hotel in a professional manner.
Participate in applicable Marriott brand training programs.
Work with Marriott and hotel sales related systems.
Represent the hotel at Marriott brand events and sales related activities.
Maintain a strategic sales & marketing plan and SMART action plan to generate top line revenues to meet or exceed annual budget expectations.
Evaluate business/sales goals, market opportunities, and available resources to generate profitable strategies.
Assist the DOS with reporting and forecasting.
Conduct account and market research to develop and implement effective sales strategies for each market segment, to grow market share.
Provide customer intelligence in evaluating the market and economic trends that may lead to changes in sales strategy for assigned segments to meet or exceed customer expectations.
Work with industry tools such as Agency 360 to shift identified market share.
Research competitor's sales team strategies to identify ways to grow occupancy, RevPAR and increase market share
Ensure all client interactions are documented and in hotel data base systems.
Submit a weekly activity report to the Director of Sales outlining achievements, opportunities, and next steps.
Assist with various assignments and/or projects as assigned by DOS.
Champion the sales culture within the hotel among associates and managers.
Work and communicate in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues assisting where necessary to develop team spirit and to achieve standards of work and guest care as required by hotel policy and brand standards.
Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures, report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager. Complete safety training and certifications. Provide support per the Emergency Response Plan as directed.
Participate in committees, focus group meetings and departmental meetings within the hotel as requested.
Maintain a professional image at all times.
Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by senior managers.
THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE:
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sales and marketing within the hospitality industry required.
Marriott brand hotel experience an asset.
Post-secondary education in sales, hospitality or a related field a definite asset.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Computer literacy required: MS Windows and related hotel group booking systems an asset
High degree of professionalism.
Highly energetic, aggressive self-starter
Must have well-developed sales skills including excellent negotiation, prospecting, presentation, and closing skills.
Established industry contacts and knowledge of marketplace a definite asset.
A commitment to superior customer service.
Ability to build strong, effective relationships with all client groups, outside sales contacts as well as in all areas of the hotel.
Excellent organizational, follow-through and workload planning skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities while adhering to deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail.
Results-oriented with the ability to be flexible and work well in a busy and demanding environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel on occasion.
First Aid certification an asset.
Ability to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets.
