About this opportunity:

The Atlantic Region\xe2\x80\x99s Finance department has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Royalty Accountant. The top deliverables of this role are royalty management in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. All financial and reporting analysis for royalties, project support (amendments, systems testing etc.) and regulatory compliance. The team is looking for someone that has broad industry experience including experience in royalties, production accounting, regulatory and financial reporting. The successful candidate will need to have strong problem solving, communication, organizational and analytical skills. They need to continuously prioritize work, be a solid team player in a high deadline driven and continuously changing environment.

Responsibilities:

This position will manage base activities and be responsible for some key projects to further enhance the accounting in the Atlantic Region. These projects are technical in nature and require strong accounting skills combined with a solid understanding of the General Ledger.

  • Month end accruals, journal entries, reporting and variance analysis
  • Ensuring adherence to Royalty regulations, largely consisting of Monthly & Annual filings, and ensuring timely payments to the province
  • Maintaining Royalty models used for economics and planning
  • Assisting with budgets and forecasts
  • Supporting and assisting in the close-out of royalty Audits; including direct communication with the province on audit files
  • Preparing Monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Ad hoc support to Finance related projects
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Applicable industry experience, knowledge of job and industry specific practices or processes
  • Experience in royalty management, audit, financial analysis, production accounting, joint venture accounting, and system support an asset
  • A Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent with a CPA designation
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience
  • Solid understanding of SAP
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Strict attention to detail and accuracy, with a demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task and meet strict and occasionally moving deadlines
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and team skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
