Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer (fly In Fly Out)

Job Description

Reporting to the Rock Mechanics Coordinator, you will be a part of the Engineering Department and will collaborate with other departments of the mine. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Design and oversee technical studies regarding all aspects of Rock mechanics (surface and underground mining), including numerical modelling and stability analysis for underground openings;
  • Ensure regular update of the Ground Control Management Plan and proper follow-up on the different KPI. Conduct inspections and implement surveillance programs to guarantee compliance with the program;
  • Perform QA/QC and provide guidance on cemented rockfill (CRF) backfill;
  • Review the work of other engineers and technicians in the field of rock mechanics (open pit & underground);
  • Provide coaching and training to junior staff;
  • Technical review of deliverables produced by the team or by consultants;
  • Coordination of geotechnical mandates with consultants (annual inspection, rock mechanics studies, remediation work);
  • Liaise with AEM specialists from the technical services department, projects development groups, and other mining operations;
  • Establish, approve,and maintain process and procedures as required;
  • Collaborate in various budgeting and forecasting exercises and ensure adequate cost control of allocated budget;
  • Promote Health and Safety by participating and hosting the monthly Departmental H&S meeting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Civil (hydrology/hydraulic), Geological Engineering or related field;
  • 7+ years of experience in ground control / rock mechanics (experience in both underground and open pit is an asset);
  • Proven track record in operational mining projects is essential. Experience in project start-up and operational readiness an asset;
  • Experience supervising a multidisciplinary technical team is an asset;
  • Experience working with Deswik is an asset;
  • Experience with cemented rockfill (CRF) backfill is considered an asset;
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;
  • Member of a Canadian Engineering society and eligible to NAPEG membership;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and positive attitude;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written).
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 14 days of work, followed by 14 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from all communities in the Kivalliq region, Mirabel or Val-d'Or, Quebec.
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and may accommodate to cover other travelling expenses.
