If this is a description of what you do or want to be doing more of, take a look at this Senior Risk Manager opportunity! Our Community Real Estate (CRE) Credit team is growing, and we are looking for a seasoned professional who's up for a new challenge.

The role:
  • Provide credit risk management for CRE's portfolio of conventional and impact commercial real estate loans, ensuring they reflect Vancity's strategic goals and address current market conditions.
  • Work closely with CRE and their lending partners, provide best advice and credit risk management on new lending opportunities, loan approval requests, renewals, annual reviews, amendments, and high-risk loan monitoring, to ensure established quality and service standards are met.
  • Mitigate risk by ensuring loans are approved in accordance with Vancity Lending Policy, and CRE Policies and Procedures, funded and managed in accordance with approval terms.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Identify process improvements supporting continuous improvement of CRE lending practice, policies and procedures.
A typical day would involve:
  • Working closely with a small team of commercial real estate lending professionals, your week begins with the Credit, Administration and Production meeting to review a pipeline of current opportunities in BC, sharing relevant updates for the department and organization, and current market information.
  • Supporting the Production team by working one on one with account managers, reviewing new lending opportunities, assisting with account management, loan structure and analysis, review of conditions precedent, to ensure risk appetite, policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Supporting the Administration team with subject matter expertise in loan administration including funding, documentation and the core banking system.
  • Opportunity to work with Vancity's subsidiary Vancity Community Investment Bank providing credit risk management and adjudication for CRE's AB and ON portfolio.
  • Participating in department and corporate initiatives and strategies, helping build operational excellence.
You are:
  • Analytical and Problem Solver - You analyze complex commercial real estate property and mortgage applications, renewals, amendments, annual reviews, initial fundings, and progress draws within authorized lending limits, to achieve strategic goals and maintain portfolio quality and profitability.
  • Creative and Strategist - You mitigate risk with creative solutions. You implement timely and effective resolutions for deteriorating or delinquent accounts, monitor loan quality and mitigate potential loss.
  • A Subject Matter Expertise - You provide subject matter expertise to CRE, internal and external partners and stakeholders. You stay on top of current and relevant trends in the commercial real estate industry by utilizing internal and external connections.
  • Passionate - about being a financial force for change and believe that finance can have a positive impact in the world.
You have:
  • An undergraduate degree, ideally a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Urban Land Economics.
  • Minimum 10 years experience financing and/or appraising commercial real estate investment properties and commercial and multi-family development projects.
  • Experience structuring complex loan structures with multiple partners, financing a variety of property types including affordable housing, environmentally sustainable buildings, social purpose real estate, and market income producing properties.
  • Experience reviewing and assessing a variety of documents including appraisals, lease agreements, building condition reports, environmental reports, corporate and personal financial statements, project development budgets, quantity surveyor reports, agreements for purchase and sale and loan security documents.
  • Working knowledge of anti-money laundering and terrorist financing due diligence to ensure CRE's portfolio remains compliant with the PCMLTFA.
  • Demonstrated ability working with advanced MS Office Suite, primarily focused in Excel, Word, Outlook, Skype, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience working with T24 core banking platform.

In this role, you will report into the Director, Community Real Estate Credit and work together with CRE located at Vancity' s Head Office.

The position can be fully or partially remote, with flexibility to work from home or office.
