Primary Purpose of Position





Sinopec Canada is presently seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to join our Exploration and Evaluation team. Reporting to the Manager, Exploration and Evaluation, this position works in a high-functioning, multi-disciplinary team that focuses on identifying and maximizing the value of a broad array of assets. The successful candidate will play a key role in the subsurface reservoir engineering, including well planning and forecasting for new plays, reservoir management, and optimization of existing fields.





The Senior Reservoir Engineer will be based in Sinopec Canada's Calgary, Alberta head office.




Roles and Responsibilities






Lead reservoir engineering aspects of exploration and evaluation that consider well design, interwell spacing, type curve generation, and economics to advance the understanding of a new play. Utilize analogues, analytical, and simulation techniques to generate medium to long-term production forecasts, build/update models when needed. Steward all pressure transient analysis (PTA), rate transient analysis (RTA), PVT, reservoir (flow simulation), and fracture simulation models for exploration wells, incorporating the latest learnings of geomechanics and in-situ stress. Develop methods to continually monitor and communicate reservoir performance. Analyse well data and identify any issues with operational staff to optimize production of existing and new wells. Evaluate conventional water-flooding reservoirs and pools to identify optimization/re-development opportunities. Ensure reservoir management is in compliance with regulatory guidelines to meet with the production team and update the VRR results, and discuss solutions if it is not compliant. Propose data acquisition program of both existing and new wells, analyse data for the purpose of reservoir engineering and operations enhancement. Prepare technical presentations and reports to gain approvals on various projects. Provide subsurface engineering updates for annual optimizations, lookbacks of exploration & evaluation projects, year-end reserves and resources bookings. Provide multi-disciplinary support to geology, subsurface/technical, drilling and completions, land, facility, and production operations



Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience





Proven reservoir engineering skills in the evaluation of both conventional and unconventional plays, with extensive experience in gas-condensate and volatile oil reservoirs, and their impacts on production. Technical skills such as decline curve analysis, type curve creation, data analytics, and pressure analysis, such as DFIT/PTA, RTA. Familiar with well completion and production operations, horizontal multi-frac well experience is a must. Reservoir simulation and surveillance skills, including water-flooding project evaluations. The ability to assimilate multi-disciplinary data and interpretations, leading to a deep understanding of the reservoir and come up with an optimized development plan. Excellent analytical, integration, and project management capabilities. Solid computer skills and proficiency in engineering applications such as data analytics and economic evaluation (Microsoft Office, CMG, Tableau, Mosaic, Enersight). General understanding of geology, geophysics, drilling and completions, production operations, and facilities disciplines, including their related technologies. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; Prior experience in working with a diverse and multicultural environment will be an asset.



Qualifications





Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or Chemical /Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience in the Oil & Gas Industry with the majority of exposure to reservoir engineering. Professional Engineer (P. Eng) and APEGA member in good standing Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
