Job Details
Position Title: Senior Research Specialist
Status: FT Admin Faculty/Department: Office of Research & Innovation
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Campus: North Campus
Payband/Salary: FT Admin 07 $102,650 - $153,975
What you will do:
Reporting to the Dean, Research & Innovation, this position will be responsible for strategic leadership and management of the research and funding strategies that will increase Humber\xe2\x80\x99s position in polytechnic research. The incumbent will manage the research and innovation pipeline for the Office of Research & Innovation (ORI). The incumbent work with the data systems team to drive the development of systems and database programs necessary to meet strategic funding and grant writing goals. The incumbent will develop and implement research policies and systems that ensure ethical research conduct. The incumbent conducts their own research to gather insights that are used to cultivate new research frameworks and methodologies, and buildings support tools and resources that build Humber\xe2\x80\x99s research capacity. The incumbent leads statistical and programming teams and interacts with stakeholders to plan and implement statistical and programming project plans and deliver quality deliverables. This position will have experience with integrated strategic planning, implementation, and operationalization to align projects with strategic goals and operational objectives with a focus on evidence-based decisions, backed by quality data, reporting and analytics as an important requirement of this role. The incumbent oversees all aspects of the grant funding database \xe2\x80\x93 ORI subject matter expert in funding opportunities, Provides detailed mapping of deadlines, application requirements, status updates on existing and prospective applications.




What you bring to the role: Education

  • The successful candidate with possess a PHD in related field
  • Certified Research Professional designation by Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA) preferred
Experience & Skills
  • 7-10 years in academic or non-profit system with proven track record of success in grant writing and the ability to develop a strategic, multi-faceted research plan.
  • Significant demonstrated prior work experiences developing interesting, relevant and researchable questions and applying sophisticated data analysis (both independently and leading teams) using a variety of software packages (such as NVivo, SPSS, Tableau, Provalis, Survey Monkey and/or other research relevant software) with official statistics and creating innovative datasets.
  • Extensive contributions to scholarly disciplines.
  • Proven expertise and detailed knowledge of Canadian Tri-Council regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly effective organizational skills, including electronic files. Extensive knowledge of the Research Management protocols established by Tri-Council.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver relevant evidence-based results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, advanced Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent people and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects (scoping, tracking, stakeholder communications, reporting) and associated budgets;
  • Demonstrated success in the writing and preparation of research manuscripts, presentations, reports, briefs, infographics and scientific abstracts for both peer-reviewed journals and grey literature publications.
  • Analytical, logical thinking with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Be a credible spokesperson, who has a public profile and engages in innovative ways to disseminate research findings and insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and explain technical material to a general audience in an engaging manner.
