Your opportunity:

You will engage in the development and maintenance of business intelligence tools designed to facilitate research and innovation performance evaluation at the University of Toronto. You will consult institutional research leaders and functional users regarding priorities, deliverables and data governance. You will use your knowledge about research and innovation performance indicators to develop project design. You will guide a development team in mining and curating information from complex relational databases in order to realize users\' expectations and manage user acceptance testing. You will conduct complex data analyses that inform critical institutional initiatives, including bench-marking the University\'s research and innovation performance relative to peers, and support the development of University goals. You will write high-quality reports that convey information to a broad range of audiences including senior institutional research leaders.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing overall project design
  • Assessing and determining methodologies for data retrieval and manipulation
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending solutions to project challenges
  • Conducting detailed data analysis to inform management decision making
  • Providing detailed information on data analysis findings to stakeholders
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Identifying and resolving systemic data integrity issues
Essential Qualifications:
  • Master\'s Degree in a discipline that involves complex data analysis, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years relevant experience mining and curating complex datasets, and fostering stakeholder engagement.
  • University of Toronto\'s Tableau Research and Innovation Dashboards, Research Information System, VPRI Datamart, Minuet database, or equivalent organizational database/business intelligence tool
  • Demonstrated project management skills in a multi-stakeholder environment; ability to motivate teams and work collaboratively with others
  • Strong numeric, research, and analytical skills with an ability to mine complex data sets, identify trends, develop new metrics and make recommendations based on data-driven insights that will inform management decision-making
  • Strong interaction skills: oral and written communication skills to explain complex statistical analyses to decision makers, probe for information to establish needs and respond to requests, and communicate data query requirements to others (IT, business units, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems with nimbleness, initiative and creativity; ability to navigate frequently shifting priorities and work accurately to deadlines
  • Demonstrated competence with advanced functionality in spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel)
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, strong understanding of the principles of effective data visualization
  • Ability to consolidate information from multiple sources and understand the underlying nuances
  • Demonstrated command of word processing software and presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint)
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Experience managing collaborative platforms (e.g. SharePoint)
  • Experience on projects following an Agile management methodology
