In accordance with the , this position has a comprehensive and an annual salary range of $87,013 to $97,890. This position has an initial appointment of June 29, 2029.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Working within the context of the multi-year research project "Reinforcing Pathways for a Long-Term Increase of Accredited Indigenous K-12 Educators in Canada: A Culturally-Grounded Approach to Expanding Teacher Education Rooted in wicihitowin and manahcihitowin to uplift meskotonamatowin," the ATEP Research Associate III independently conceives, designs, and evaluates complex components of the project, exercising judgment in applying Indigenous and Western methodologies. This role provides intellectual leadership that influences ATEP's research portfolio and contributes to institutional recognition in Indigenous teacher education research. This position can co-supervise up to 10 graduate/undergraduate research assistants, manage project budgets exceeding $1 million annually, and exercise independent authority in designing culturally grounded research activities with over 15 Indigenous communities.
Responsibilities:
Project coordination: 30%

  • Coordinates the community visits of the project team, including learning opportunities with mentor teachers and school administrators.
  • Coordinates supporting researchers, including undergraduate and graduate research assistants, co-supervising them with the PI and exercising leadership in the provision of mentoring and capacity-building.
  • Manages the use of resources within the research project, ensuring proper accountability to the Principal Investigator and funder (Rideau Hall Foundation).
  • Exercises decision-making authority in such areas as allocation of resources and negotiation with partners.
Project design: 30%
  • In partnership with the Principal Investigator, leads the design and implementation of complex research components, making methodological and conceptual decision that directly shape the trajectory of the project and its impact on Indigenous teacher education across Canada
Evaluates the project's methodological approach, outcomes, and goals with the broader goals of ATEP's research portfolio. * Makes original contributions to research methodology in creating new culturally grounded approaches .
  • Designs, tests, and evaluates advanced research methodology, protocols, and techniques to ensure alignment with research goals and objectives.
Data collection and analysis: 20%
  • Collects data annually to inform a longitudinal analysis of the impact of this project's efficacy
Oversees data collection and analysis, and conducts quality assurance on methodology and technique. * Assesses, interprets, analyzes, and evaluates research findings.
  • Ensures respect for and adherence to appropriate Indigenous research protocols related to data collection and analysis, including the caretaking of information shared and engagement with Indigenous communities such that their knowledge is honored appropriately in alignment with relevant Indigenous research frameworks.
  • Leads summative project evaluation in year 4.
Knowledge mobilization and dissemination: 20%
  • Leads the development of curricula resulting from the community visits Authors and/or co-authors, with the Principal Investigator, research papers, posters, and/or presentations to disseminate research findings.
  • Makes presentations or collaborates on presentations of research findings.
  • Is involved in the planning of future research.
  • Assists in the preparation of research grant applications and contract proposals.
  • Seeks out and identifies opportunities for future research partnerships, grants, and projects that are continually responsive to the needs of the communities, ATEP students, and scholars collaborating through this project.
  • Authors the summative report for funder at the conclusion of the project (2029).
  • Impacts Indigenous research at institutional, provincial, and national levels.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Indigenous Teacher Education or a related field.
  • Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research skills, including knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience with various research dissemination methods and knowledge mobilization practices.
  • Original scholarly contribution: publications, grant writing, curriculum innovations, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD (or PhD in progress) in Indigenous Teacher Education or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with and/or supervising supporting researchers including undergraduate and graduate research assistants is an asset.
  • Experience managing project funds.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous protocols, value systems, current and historical lived realities, and ways of being and knowing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to build relationships effectively in cross-cultural settings.
  • High-level organization skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to influence policy and practice.
