Job Description

Daily Bread Food Bank works towards long-term solutions to end hunger and poverty and runs innovative programs to support individuals living on low incomes and experiencing food insecurity. Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food and fresh-cooked meals to 129 member agencies and 207 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who's Hungry report - an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Daily Bread Food Bank's mission is to collaborate with all to eliminate food insecurity, and advocate for solutions to end poverty. Reporting to the Vice President, Research & Advocacy, the Senior Research Analyst plays a vital role in supporting this mission by coordinating and conducting research to understand the root causes of food insecurity and the impacts of government policies on our food bank clients. Their work also supports the development of evidence-based solutions to food insecurity and poverty in Toronto.



As Senior Research Analyst, you will lead key research projects including the annual Who's Hungry initiative. Duties include, but are not limited to:



Data Analysis

Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data. Cleaning data and maintaining data integrity. Analyzing data from various databases, including Statistics Canada and Daily Bread's client intake system (Link2Feed).

Research

Conducting literature reviews. Identifying key research findings based on data analysis. Conducting surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups. Assisting other Daily Bread staff and departments with conducting research on food insecurity and other economic drivers of poverty.

Knowledge Management

Drafting reports and presentations based on research findings. Compiling, maintaining, and communicating data about food bank usage and trends. Conducting internal and external presentations on research processes and findings. Acting as a representative of Daily Bread in meetings with external stakeholders, including community partners, government staff, elected representatives, students, and educators.

Project Management

Developing research work plans, study designs, and data collection tools. Coordinating data collection logistics. Recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers. Coordinating Who's Hungry research committee meetings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (or equivalent)

Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (graduate level preferred) or equivalent professional experience and training in applied research and data analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and SPSS or an equivalent statistical analysis program is required. Experience with SQL, ArcGIS, PowerBI or other data visualization tools is an asset. Experience designing and creating surveys using tools such as SurveyMonkey. Experience designing and executing research projects that follow best practices and ensure data integrity. Proven ability to identify key research findings and translate them into accessible, actionable insights for diverse audiences. Experience in managing projects from inception to completion, including developing timelines, sequencing tasks, and identifying/mitigating risks. Experience working with large datasets. Experience working in a community-based research setting is an asset. Experience working with a volunteer workforce is an asset.

Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines effectively. Strong understanding of best practices in research and data analysis to ensure data integrity. Collaborative and inclusive approach, with the ability to build trust and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders including teammates, organizational partners, and community members. Clear and engaging communicator, skilled at making research findings accessible to staff, community partners, and other diverse audiences. Ability to lead, support, and motivate volunteers, students, and staff contributing to research initiatives. High level of discretion, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality. Organized, resourceful and detail-oriented with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Knowledge of social policy issues relating to poverty and food insecurity is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS



The incumbent has an office at 191 New Toronto Street in a warehouse environment and is occasionally required to travel to off-site meetings and events in the City of Toronto.
