Role Title
Senior Reinsurance Analyst
Purpose of role
The Senior Reinsurance Analyst is responsible for preparing accurate monthly and quarterly reinsurance reports, manages business processes in the TAI system, and handles manual reinsurance transactions, ensuring data accuracy.
The role requires strong analytical abilities, a solid understanding of insurance and reinsurance principles (preferably life), and attention to detail. Responsibilities also include maintaining reinsurance procedure manuals, contributing to departmental and divisional projects, and supporting both internal and external audits.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis:Analyze reinsurance financial data, including premiums and claim settlements, to ensure accuracy and treaty compliance
Perform TAI monthly processing, including exception reports, continuations policies, and facultative processing
Manage non-TAI reinsurance processing, including journalizing accounting entries
Reporting and Reconciliation:Prepare, review, and reconcile reinsurance accounts
Ensure data quality for reinsurance and claims reporting to reinsurers
Maintain reinsurance claims recoverable aging reporting
Oversee retention management, including TAI retention reports, CPP retention, and adhere to Foresters corporate retention policy
Problem Solving and Issue Resolution:Identify, investigate, and resolve issues related to reinsurance administration, claims, and financial reporting
Respond to ad hoc internal and external reinsurance inquiries
Prepare and participate in internal and external reinsurance audits
Contribute to reinsurance-related projects
Policies and Process Development:Assist in developing and maintaining reinsurance policies and procedures
Identify root causes and recommend improvements to reinsurance processing workflows
Collaboration and Communication:Collaborate with internal teams (Actuarial, Accounting, IT, and Claims) and external reinsurers
Build and maintain strong relationships with reinsurance partners
Manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
Adapt to evolving processes, procedures, and work environments
Key QualificationsEducation: Post-secondary education
Experience: Minimum 4+ years life insurance operations or reinsurance experience
Strong working knowledge of life insurance products, reinsurance practices, and principles
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Self-starter with the ability to make decisions independently and in a team environment
Skilled in research and issue resolution
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Access, and SQL
Strong mathematical skills to support key responsibilities
Ability to interpret treaty parameters to ensure compliance and consistency between Foresters' reinsurance system and finalized treaties
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills for effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders
Proven ability to build effective cross-functional partnerships within the division and across the organization
Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust and maintain strong working relationships
Strong understanding of compliance requirements and regulations affecting reinsurance
