Job Summary The Senior Radar Systems Engineer is accountable for applying technical knowledge in preparing plans and designs, completing complex Engineering projects and providing advice and technical leadership for lifecycle management of the systems and equipment in the sectionaEUR(TM)s area of responsibility.



Key Accountabilities:

  • planning and conducting engineering work, providing technical leadership in coordinating, leading, supervising and implementing engineering projects and related work performed under contract and by Engineering and technical support staff.
  • planning and performing applied research, development, or innovative design, carrying out experiments and tests, and investigating unusual and difficult problems to determine causes of failure and to devise effective solutions.
Job Requirements

Education:
  • Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in electrical, electronic or systems engineering or certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
Professional Certification:
  • Member or eligible to be a member in a Professional Engineering Association in Canada.
Experience:
  • Experience in the planning, design and/or implementation of electronics systems and hardware projects.
  • Experience in engineering project management under $250K.
  • Experience in coordinating and supervising technical work activities or leading engineering / technical project teams.
  • Experience in adaptation/tuning or modification of operational systems.
  • Experience in analyzing and debugging problems related to electronic systems
  • Experience in testing and certification of a system for operational use
  • Experience in the development of specifications, standards and procedures.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of project management, risk control management and safety management principles.
  • Knowledge of current computer systems, networking, and communication standards and protocols.
  • Knowledge of national and international standards related to surveillance
  • Substantive knowledge of radar data formats, and radar technology electromagnetic theory including RF propagation, Signal processing and techniques applicable to Detection Systems.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, practices and technology in the field of Control and Monitoring of operational systems.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, practices and technology in the field of Aircraft Surveillance such as RADAR, ADS-B, Multilateration and 1090 Datalink technologies.
  • Detailed knowledge of practices applied to the installation, maintenance, repair, and modifications of mission critical systems in Nav Canada.
Abilities
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and monitor technical projects including the technical, financial and human resources associated with these projects.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and requirements, to develop options and to implement recommended course of action.
  • Ability to develop, design and implement technical solutions with the use of Hardware and Software.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of direction and supervision and as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrates professionalism, initiative, reliability, and decisiveness.
  • Provides leadership to engineering staff of section and project teams including mentoring and coaching to team members.
Working conditions:
  • Travel required as part of this position both nationally and internationally
  • This position is based in Ottawa, Ontario but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
