PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position of the Quality Engineer is to be the primary customer contact, to maintain and improve customer relations, and to lead root cause analysis and corrective action teams.
The position also requires advanced planning skills as it related to gauge release management, new product launch quality monitoring and documentation; as well as quality monitoring and improvements during mass production.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The position interacts with managers of all departments in order to solve problems and quality issues. The position is responsible for his/her work assignments and may direct the work of others within the quality department.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Post-Secondary College Diploma in a technical field is required. CQE certification or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of related core tools (e.g. APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, PPAP) is a must.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong problem solving and analytical skills are a must. Understanding of inspection methods, measurement gauge design and procedures is required. Geometric dimensioning and tolerance knowledge is required. Statistical knowledge as applicable to the automotive industry is necessary. Must have strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Communication Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills are required for normal technical/business communication. Should have sound computer skills. Must be able to travel and deal with different cultures. Must be able to work within cross-functional teams.
Nature and Length of Experience
At least five years' experience in a similar job in a manufacturing environment as well as experience in program launch is preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary customer quality contact.
Primary supplier quality contact.
Makes internal quality decisions based on the product documentation, drawings and standards.
Responsible for containment management and leading communication with involved parties.
Responsible for creating nonconformance documentation such as: Nonconformance Notices, Quality Gates, Sort Instructions, etc.
Forms and leads root cause analysis and corrective action teams. (Project Manager support may be required depending on the failure mode.)
Monitors corrective action efficiency. Performs CAQ audits and follows up on any recorded comments, warnings or failures.
Monitors external corrective actions and quality gates are completed and reviewed in a timely manner by the Product Engineers and/or Quality/Project Management.
Participates in APQP process.
Manages the end to end inspection gauge launch aspects from procurement, design and documentation review, MSA and other documents and certifications.
Schedules and coordinates MSA requirements in collaboration with the Quality Engineer or Project Manager for all measuring equipment including calibration (internally or externally) & GRR, assigns gage locations, coordinates gage/fixture repairs internally or externally.
Efficient use of electronic data collection equipment.
Ability to communicate quality requirements and methodologies to the shop floor.
Responsible for monitoring and working towards reducing costs of quality for assigned product lines.
Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
Follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department.
Follows and performs to the processes and instructions outlined in the Process House that are applicable to the department.
Performs other duties characteristic of the job environment as requested by the Supervisor and Manager.
Compliance to all HR company policies and procedure.
Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Supervisor or Manager.
Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor and Manager.
