Job Overview:



The Senior Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for the quality of the product and packaging that is sold to consumers, while also providing direction to hourly and salaried lab technicians and sanitation workers. The main areas of focus include quality of the production process, maintenance of standard processes to prevent adulteration or contamination of product, testing of product attributes and packaging integrity, regulatory compliance, and facility sanitation.



Key Responsibilities:



Support Health and Safety committee activities including monthly meeting attendance and regular participation in site Health and Safety committee inspections Responsible for identifying health hazards and other hazards i.e. Biological, Chemical and Physical hazard in the process controls with the assistance of Health and Safety Committee Conducts regular site walks (planned and unplanned) to identify unsafe, hazardous practices and conditions and ensure prompt correction and implement corrective and preventive action based on the identified root cause of the issue Monitor site Health and Safety Metrics and data and participates in implementation of continuous improvement Responsible for the implementation and adherence to the Health and Safety policy/program and provide an example for others by always directing and performing work in a safe manner by following Health and Safety policy / program Train employees to report all incidents, injuries and near misses and in conducting thorough investigation to identify root cause of the issue Provides on-going Health and Safety training to all full-time employees, temporary employees, agency employees and contractors Responsible for establishing and implementing training related to Food Safety and Quality Ensures that temporary employees, agency employees and contractors are trained on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Plant rules prior to start of work Assigned / designated Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) and responsible to make decisions about hazards and verification procedures such as environmental monitoring specific to facility and to review the food safety records (HACCP records) Provide technical leadership in the areas of food safety and quality systems Ability to provide leadership to the Food Safety Committee and to the plant on all product safety programs and issues Responsible to update annual matrices to the QA programs Responsible for establishing and implementing training related to Food Safety and Quality Responsible for verifying, achieving and enforcement of Food Safety, Food Quality, GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), Allergen Program and Health and Safety requirements Performs audits to assure compliance to GMP and company standards, while also recommending changes in manufacturing practices and or production flow to ensure product safety Analyze and maintain the quality of all products, as per set procedures Accountable for product quality by conducting regular checks as per procedure and educating production personnel on product quality standards (if needed) Responsible for verifying required processing parameters and statistical processing methods (SPC) to improve process efficiency, product quality and reduced waste Ensure Control charts are within upper and lower control limit (+/- 3 sigma) Accountable for ingredient and packaging meeting specifications prior to use in production Responsible for ensuring the highest level in product and package quality while operating within product usage and budgetary guidelines

Recipe for Success:



Completion of university degree in Food Science, Microbiology or a related field Minimum 3 years in a Quality Assurance role Proficient with office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams. Ability to run analytics and use database systems to create reports Possess strong interpersonal skills, an approachable demeanor and an active listener Working knowledge of Ministry of Labour and WSIB Basic knowledge of CFIA/Health Canada/ OMAFRA/FDA/USDA/GFSI/HASP Benchmarks Auditing an asset Excellent ability to focus and prioritize in a fast-moving environment Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate and follow-up Demonstrated ability to identify potential issues and resolve complex problems High personal energy level/resilient in nature High degree of emotional maturity and integrity Superior leadership skills along with strong written and verbal communication skills
