Job Overview


Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the creation, maintenance and utilization of quality assurance and audit practices within the Personal Insurance Underwriting function. The successful candidate will work with their leader in ensuring that corporate underwriting policies, procedures and controls support Wawanesa\xe2\x80\x99s strategic goals and objectives.
Job Respsonsibilities
  • Provides input to the design, implementation, and management of annual risk assessments, review planning and scheduling.
  • Perform independent quality assurance reviews for Canadian Regions to achieve the organization\xe2\x80\x99s strategic objectives and risk profile, including developing recommendations and considerations as well as drafting, presenting, and supporting publishing reports.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the regional underwriting file review program for Canadian Regions, well as drafting, presenting and supporting publishing reports. Including the performance of calibration reviews to ensure alignment, perform independent quality assurance reviews of regional file reviews to ensure the organization\'s strategic objectives and risk profile are achieved.
  • Provide key input to the development, implementation, and maintenance of a broker accuracy review program for Canadian Regions, as well as drafting, presenting, and supporting publishing reports.
  • Assist with the management of responses to internal and external audit findings.
  • Lead and execute compliance audits on behalf of Personal Insurance by communicating with appropriate functional areas to ensure policies are adhered to and provide status updates as required.
  • Support the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) for Personal Insurance ensuring appropriate controls and tests are established with ongoing reporting.
  • Participate in the Ethidex, FSRA, Facility Association, CCIR Fair Treatment of Customers reviews and others as required.
  • Mentors team members and regional staff in performing quality assurance reviews using audit techniques.
  • Collaborate with Personal Insurance leadership and Underwriting Managers in regional offices by challenging ineffective and inefficient processes and identifying continuous improvement opportunities including exceptional file handling practices and capabilities, achieve superior customer service and promote accountability.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of best practices and documentation for identifying and mitigating risk in alignment with corporate strategies.
  • Participate in underwriting initiatives with underwriting leaders across our Canadian regions and develop action plans to drive financial results and efficiencies.
  • Maintain, track, and ensure timely response to various operational reporting deadlines as assigned.
  • Management and oversight of software for the quality assurance program, including training and usage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Minimum of 5 years Property and Casualty industry experience and/or experience with conducting compliance reviews.
  • Post-secondary education and/or completion of a Property and Casualty industry designation (CIP/FCIP).
  • Professional audit designation (CIA and/or CFE), or commitment to obtaining same would be an asset.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory authorities and a background in reviewing legislation considered an asset.
  • Experience or education with internal audit or quality assurance practices considered as an asset.
  • Technical competence in auto, property and liability underwriting with a solid understanding and application of best practices in personal insurance.
  • Ability to use critical thinking, logic, critical reasoning, and good judgement to get to the root of issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans that define activities, resources, and timelines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in MicroStrategy would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with audit and quality assurance software considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
