Victoria, BC, CA, Canada

Job Description

:

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, MAJOR TERMINAL ELECTRIFICATION

Fleet Renewal

Victoria

The Opportunity

In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is launching a new Fleet Renewal program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities. BC Ferries also intends to undertake an ambitious program of system electrification, enabling large parts of our ferry system to operate on a cleaner and more sustainable energy source. These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company's history.

As a member of the Fleet Renewal Infrastructure project team, the Senior Project Manager is a once in a generation opportunity to lead an exciting project that will revolutionize the way BC Ferries operates major vessels.

The project involves BC Hydro delivered transmission upgrades, on-site distribution substations, ferry chargers, and associated civil and electrical infrastructure at select major terminals. While ferry chargers do exist globally, the power levels and associated vessel size and energy requirements will be novel. There is a range of technological maturity, and the project team will be integrating new technologies and processes.

The Senior Project Manager leads the planning and delivery of the largest and most complex electrical, civil, building, and marine infrastructure projects at our terminals. This role is responsible for working with diverse interest holder groups and regulatory agencies and delivering results in operationally complex work environments. From project initiation to close-out, the Senior Project Manager completes a comprehensive range of tasks and activities including planning, design development, budget and schedule management, construction management, corporate reporting, and commissioning and handover. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Project Manager provides professional and technical support to departmental and organizational leadership and provides coaching and mentoring to new or junior staff including project managers and project coordinators.

The Senior Project Manager will build a team around them that includes project staff, external advisory consultants, and a contractor team to deliver the project. If you enjoy working on the owner's side of the table, this is a great opportunity to deliver a globally significant transportation electrification project.
