Position Overview
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager - Energy & Infrastructure to lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects within our Pickering Operations. The successful candidate will manage all project phases from initiation through closeout, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, cost, and quality targets while maintaining strict compliance with OPG's Project Management governance framework.
This position requires strong leadership, technical understanding, and stakeholder management skills to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and drive results across engineering, construction, operations, and contract management.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all stages of project delivery--initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout--in alignment with OPG's Project Management standards and phase-gate governance.
Develop, review, and implement project charters, work breakdown structures (WBS), risk management plans, and project control structures for cost and schedule tracking.
Prepare and support Business Case Submissions for executive and board-level approvals, ensuring financial and operational alignment.
Coordinate project scopes, estimates, schedules, and risk assessments, integrating input from engineering, supply chain, operations, and external stakeholders.
Oversee procurement and contract administration processes, including bid package development, tender evaluation, and supplier performance management.
Lead project meetings, ensuring effective collaboration among design, construction, operations, and regulatory teams.
Monitor progress, cost variance, and schedule performance; prepare detailed project reports and implement corrective actions as required.
Manage project changes and ensure adherence to OPG's change control, safety, and quality management processes.
Maintain proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, regulatory agencies, and project partners.
Support site visits, manufacturing inspections, and supplier audits in Canada and internationally, providing input on design and construction practices.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize project controls, governance, and execution efficiency.
Supervise and mentor assigned project staff or contractors, fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
Equivalent combination of education and extensive experience in project management may be considered.
Experience:
6-8 years of progressive project management experience in energy, utilities, heavy industry, or infrastructure environments.
Proven ability to manage large, multi-contract, multi-stakeholder projects with complex cost, scope, and schedule constraints.
Strong background in project estimation, financial forecasting, and cost control.
Demonstrated expertise in contract management, procurement, and vendor negotiation.
Practical understanding of construction methods, quality assurance, and health and safety standards.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills to effectively manage cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with OPG project management processes, work management, and project controls considered an asset.
Experience with Fuel Handling systems, equipment reliability, and engineering change control processes (MTL) is an asset.
Professional Designations:
PMP or PgMP certification preferred.
