About Our Opportunity
Under the direction of the Construction Manager, the Senior Project Engineer will lead a team of Project Engineers, Engineering Survey Technicians, in-house and external technical experts in the development of cost-effective solutions for complex road infrastructure projects. You must remain current in engineering best practices and engineering procedures. You are responsible for the preparation of detailed cost estimates and tender documents for all projects in the District Capital Program ensuring accuracy and consistency in meeting Departmental standards.
Primary Accountabilities
You are the District\'s lead contact for all stakeholders throughout the Capital Program tendering process. You will assist the Construction Manager and other members of the District\'s Management Team in the development of priorities for the Capital program which will be published annually in the Department\'s Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan. You will also mentor junior Engineering and technical staff and recommend required training.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering is required along with a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in highway maintenance and development. You must be actively registered as a Full Member (P.Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS) or equivalent in another association.
A valid driver\'s license is required.
This position demands a highly organized and motivated self-starter who can work with minimal supervision. You must possess an understanding of the principles of the various strategies relating to highway/bridge construction and rehabilitation, including the ability to interpret specifications and diagnose engineering problems relating to all facets of highway and bridge design and construction.
You must be able to supervise technical staff, manage multiple projects and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. You must also have a thorough understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and general knowledge of Government policies and procedures relating to the Departmental Health, Safety and Environment Program. Computer skills for word processing (Word) and analytical applications (Excel) are required. Previous experience and knowledge in Project Management will be considered an asset.

Working Conditions
You will have some time spent in an office environment, but most of your time will be spent outside during all seasons and various weather conditions on heavily-travelled roads or in rough, isolated areas of construction sites.
Additional Information
The successful candidate could work out of Amherst, Bible Hill or New Glasgow depending on the preferred location.
