Position Summary

The Senior Produce Clerk plays a key role in supporting the Produce Department by maintaining high standards in product freshness, displays, and customer service, while also taking on additional responsibilities in training, mentoring, and overseeing junior staff. This role is ideal for someone with

strong produce knowledge, attention to detail, and leadership skills

, who can act as a second-in-command to the Produce Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Support the Produce Manager with day-to-day operations of the department Oversee receiving, stocking, rotating, and merchandising of produce to ensure quality and freshness standards are met Train, mentor, and support junior produce clerks to uphold department standards Assist with monitoring inventory, ordering needs, and minimizing shrink/waste Create attractive produce displays that maximize sales and align with merchandising standards Maintain department cleanliness, food safety, and workplace safety practices Act as a key customer-facing team member--answering questions, offering product knowledge, and ensuring an exceptional shopping experience Handle product damages, credits, and discrepancies in accordance with company policy Support scheduling and shift coverage as needed Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Produce Manager Perform additional duties as required to support store and business needs
Skillset Requirements

2-3 years of produce or grocery experience required; leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred

Food Safety Handlers Certification is an asset Strong product knowledge in fresh fruits and vegetables, including handling and rotation best practices Exceptional attention to detail and quality standards Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a customer-first mindset Proven ability to train and mentor team members Collaborative and adaptable, able to support a dynamic department and store environment Physically able to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds Comfortable working in cooler environments (produce storage and cooler rooms) Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
