Electrovaya designs, develops and manufactures proprietary Lithium-ion batteries, battery systems, and battery-related products for energy storage, clean electric transportation and other specialized applications. Electrovaya is seeking a Senior R&D Process Technician to join our pilot plant team to scale innovative battery processes and technologies. In this hands-on role, you will support process development by executing pilot-scale experiments, operating and maintaining specialized equipment, and assisting engineers and scientists in scaling innovative technologies from lab to production.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot pilot-scale process equipment across various unit operations for battery materials and component manufacturing.
Conduct experimental runs and process trials according to R&D protocols, SOPs, and safety standards.
Participate in troubleshooting and optimization of manufacturing systems and processes to improve throughput and product quality.
Assist in the design, fabrication, installation, and modification of process equipment and prototype test setups.
Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures for newly commissioned equipment.
Perform routine and preventive equipment maintenance, identifying equipment issues and coordinate repairs or upgrades as required.
Work with subcontractors to coordinate facility electrical and mechanical infrastructure upgrades as required for new equipment.
Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Required Skills:
Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field; or equivalent industrial hands-on experience.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or pilot plant environment with direct machine operation and maintenance experience.
Strong mechanical proficiency; ability to read P&IDs, troubleshoot equipment, and perform minor fabrication or maintenance tasks as required.
Solid understanding of process operations and equipment including pumps, mixers, reactors, and related instrumentation.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, data handling, and basic data analysis.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Self-driven learner and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Able to work in an R&D environment with evolving tasks and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the lithium-ion or similar battery technology field is an asset.
Experience working with roll-to-roll and web-based manufacturing systems is an asset.
Basic skills in welding, machining, and/or electrical troubleshooting are an asset.
Experience working in high temperature materials processing (i.e. ceramics) is an asset.
