SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER

The Senior Process Engineer, reporting directly to the Technical Services Superintendent, is responsible to provide technical support to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant processes. The incumbent may have direct reports, including junior engineers and process technicians. They will play a key role in the development of more junior engineers, acting as a mentor. Areas of focus will include maintaining stable process control, achieving production targets through development and or monitoring of best practices, accurate metallurgical accounting and reducing operating costs. The successful applicant will also be responsible to manage small to medium scale projects related to process improvements at the Smelter.
The incumbent will promote a constructive climate in the workplace by achieving objectives in terms of health and safety, quality control, and customer satisfaction. This role interacts with production and maintenance personnel, other support services such as environment, hygiene, engineering and external consultants.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor in Process, Chemical or Metallurgical engineering. A good working knowledge of the principles of smelting and converting would be an asset. The candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of experience in a metallurgical or industrial environment and be registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario . The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels and to operate effectively in a target-driven environment, focusing on safety, operational performance, environment and quality assurance. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, plus the ability to foster continuous improvement and teamwork. Strong leadership and communication skills are requirements for this position. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
