Summary

The Process Development Department is looking for a highly motivated Senior Associate to join the Upstream Biologics team to support a major cross-functional program. The Biologics team is responsible for technology transfer of new antibodies and recombinant proteins, while creating capacity and maintaining a large existing portfolio used in STEMCELLs Cell Separation and media products. You will work in a dynamic and collaborative team which deals with multiple competing priorities, steers efficiently through prioritization challenges, and has a learning and growth mindset.

The Upstream Senior Process Development Associate will be responsible for conducting scientific data-driven bioprocess development in a fast-paced environment that leads to efficient, robust and scalable protein production processes and their transfer to manufacturing. In this role you will contribute to the design and execution of unit operations across the full workflow, with participation in high-throughput optimization, scale-up activities to bench and pilot scale bioreactors ahead of technology transfer to Manufacturing teams. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute towards development, optimization, and implementation of scalable Upstream protein (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins) production processes to meet project timelines
  • Execute process development studies through high throughput screening methodologies and scale-up to bench and pilot scale bioreactor operations.
  • Perform protein analytical techniques (e.g. SDS-PAGE)
  • Organize and interpret results, presenting to the team as well as cross-departmental meetings
  • Contribute to the Technology Transfer of developed processes to manufacturing production facilities
  • Support manufacturing operations by reviewing documents and/or using technical expertise to ensure successful manufacturing activities
  • Author laboratory notebook records, process descriptions/flow charts, process development reports and other documentation/technical reports as needed
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • BSc with minimum 3 to 6 years relevant industry experience or MSc with 0 to 4 years of relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture of adherent and suspension cell lines is essential
  • Experience with high throughput experimentation and mechanistic modeling, experience with micro, bench, and pilot-scale bioreactors is desirable
  • Experience in media/feed development and depth filtration is an asset
  • Good problem solving skills with a systematic analytical approach
