To do this, we need leaders at all levels of the organization who embrace a challenge and believe in their ability to make a difference.About Our OpportunityReporting to the Senior Strategist, Quality and Patient Safety, we are looking for an experienced Senior Policy Analyst on the Performance and Accountability team to provide expert research, analysis, and strategic advice on key accountabilities, programs, and initiatives to promote a high-quality health system.The Senior Policy Analyst collaborates with interdepartmental teams and key stakeholders such as the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK Health Centre, analyzes policy and research options, and makes recommendations to advance the quality of the health system.Primary AccountabilitiesAs the Senior Policy Analyst, you will play a key role in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies/programs that support and advance quality in the health system. This includes:

  • Developing evidence-based policies, programs, and strategies to inform departmental decision-making;
  • Using published research and environmental scanning to inform the advancement of a high-quality health system in Nova Scotia;
  • Building, monitoring and analyzing regular accountability reporting and health system trends;
  • Developing policy options for current and future accountability needs;
  • Supporting and evaluating innovative accountability frameworks and strategies that promote high quality health systems; and
  • Preparing confidential briefs and other submissions.
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role you must have a Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent plus eight years of related experience, or a Master\'s degree plus six years of related experience, as well as two years clinical experience in an acute care setting. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. You possess strong interpersonal skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced, agile environment and can demonstrate the following:
  • Demonstrated experience in outcomes, evaluation and research methodologies is required.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills for preparing reports, briefing materials, presentations, and other submissions.
  • Broad understanding of corporate and government processes and current health priorities.
  • Well organized, capable of prioritizing high-level work under tight timelines, and able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Your strong policy development and well-developed analytical skills will be essential to this position, as well as your broad understanding of health system issues and quality-related outcome measures. In addition, you must be able to work in a team-based environment with minimal supervision.We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.EquivalencyAn equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered.
